Is There a Way to Turn Off Commentary Without Muting All Audio? Like Brann in delves

I find the helpful comments to be extremely irritating and, frankly, condescending. I’d like to mute only his voice, keeping the rest of the audio intact, as the comments are intrusive and distracting. I’ve gone through the audio and accessibility settings, but I can’t seem to find an option to disable just the commentary without affecting the rest of the audio.

I hate that it makes me feel like I’m in a tutorial for players who can’t figure out basic controls. I’ve been playing this game for 20 years. I am well aware that I shouldn’t stand in stuff, or that I need to pick up a candle. Please stop repeating it

If a particular sound in-game is really annoying you, there is a way to do this but it is a rather labour-intensive process:

  • Get two addons: MuteSoundFile and Leatrix Sounds.

  • Use Leatrix Sounds (and sometimes Wowhead sounds) to track down the numerical ID of the offending sound files.

  • Use MuteSoundFile to mute those particular sound files.

  • Enjoy peace and quiet after your labours.

Can you also disable all of chromie’s voicelines with this?

Yes, if you can find the sound file IDs. Dectective work is half of the effort and can lead you down a few rabbit holes.

For example, I wanted to mute a couple of annoying lines from a certain character, so I typed the character’s name into Leatrix Sounds but didn’t get a hit. I’ll have to search further.

The other half is ‘grunt work’. I recently got a new mount and don’t like the noises it constantly makes so I ended up manually entering fifty sound file IDs into MuteSoundFile. Ooof.

The whole process can be a pain in the backside but for me the end result is definitely worth it.

EDIT: I just did a quick search and found this page, which might help get you started. Open the links to the individual voicelines that you’re interested in and the sound file ID will be in the web address (sound=XXXXXX).

EDIT TWO: you’re probably better off using Leatrix Sounds, though. There are plenty of Chromie’s VoiceOver lines there

If its the talking heads that are annoying you, turn them off with the addon called “BeQuiet”

HushNow is also good for pop-up talking heads. It gives you the choice of whether to mute all pop-ups from that NPC or just the most recent one.

Does BeQuiet deal with all NPC voicelines, not just pop-ups?
