Is there an optimal level for each expansion?

If I want to complete all the quests in old expansions, is there an optimal level for each? Is there a level at which you don’t one shot mobs and it doesn’t take ages to kill each? Is the scaling range without Chromie an indication?
For example:
25-30 - revamped vanilla + TBC + WOTLK
30-35 - cata zones + MOP
35-40 - WOD
40-45 - Legion
50-60 - Shadowlands
? - BfA

Somewhat.

But if you wanna do them all? Reach level 30, and then go to Orgrimmar and turn your experience off. You can still remain in Chromie Time.

Now, will you still one-shot? Maybe. Depends on the class I guess - but the scaling is there, so it’ll be easy no matter what. Only tough things might be the Group quests in WoD, as those mobs are overtuned as hell (and that has been an issue since Legion was released).

Or maybe turn the experience off at level 29 to do battlegrounds.

It depends on how well your character is geared for their level. If you bother with enchanting your gear, you can get super overpowered. Also, as a DPS, you’ll kill mobs way quicker, although you might not be able to pull 10+ mobs at once like a tank would. If you want leveling to be slightly more challenging, you can do it as a healer spec - that’ll feel more like leveling in Vanilla I guess.

Everything is scaled, so the different expansions should feel relatively equal in difficulty.

To my knowledge, no. All zones in Chromie Time should scale to feel about the same, whatever level you are at.

Now if you wanted a sense of progression, you might get to level 10 in the starter zone, then go through each expansion in sequence and gain 5 levels in each. If you can be bothered, you could break it down to 1 level per zone of each expansion, although it’s probably only about 20 mins at the start of each area :smile_cat:

The down side of this is you will spend a very long time with a very simple character with not many buttons. Other people’s suggestions to get to 29-30 before locking XP have merit for actually having some class features available, although obviously you have to ration your progress even more thinly afterwards.

(It would be nice if we didn’t have to go to a capital city to turn experience gain off/on…)
