Curious if there is any other mention of Demon Hunters in other parts of the lore. 
As far as I recall, Illidan created the Demon Hunters and trained them around Black Temple. His main focus was on fighting the Burning Legion.
The Demon Hunters were all imprisoned when we defeated Illidan who by then had lost focus and gone a bit megalomaniacal.
Not sure they were in WC3 (apart from Illidan himself).
Isn’t that the beginning of the DH campaign in the Legion expansion? We’re freed after being locked up for 10,000 years, and so our modern story begins
The WoW player DHs were created after Illidian got freed and conquered the Black Temple in Warcraft III Frozen Throne. They were presumably imprisoned at the end of the Black Temple raid in TBC and remained in prison until the Legion expansion.
After Legion they are a bit like Death Knights after Wotlk. Not a lot of new lore.

it was during TBC, when Illidan sent his DHs into Mardum, and they have returned when Illidan got banished by Maiev

From the perspective of the player DH yes, you were imprisoned between TBC and Legion. In Warcraft 3, which predates WoW, there were other DHs than Illidan, but I am not sure if those were actually in the lore or if it was just so that the Night Elves have a “hero” unit.
Like Wolfy and Soulscar said, basically your DH class intro takes place during TBC. The Black Temple is under attack from Shattrah as well as the player raid (one of the generals in Mardum reference this as a “small force penetrating the Black Temple), and Illidan diverts you, the DH player to Mardum to fight the Legion and then defend the Black Temple. But you come too late, Illidan is defeated and you get imprisoned upon returning.

My head canon is they are all drinking themself to death in various inns talking about their glorydays to anyone willing to buy them another beer as they retell the tale about that one imp they demon hunted.
there is the book about illidan that explain everything. a pity i dont remember anythin about that… (wasnt my preferred one)
If you want to roleplay a 10.000 year old DH you can though, granted he or she is a Kaldorei. You could’ve been alive during the War of the Ancients and simply survived long enough to seek out Illidan at the Black Temple and join the Illidari.
Most if not all of the Sin’dorei Demon Hunters are Elves that came with Kael’thas to Outland. But again if you really want to you can make up your own story.
But other than Illidan there are no Demon Hunters (that we know of) before that. He was the first one.
They should be canon, as vanilla had Loramus Thalipedes, and Illysanna Ravencrest originally became a demon hunter during the War of the Ancients. There is also Feronas Sindweller kicking about in Felwood but he wasn’t added until Cataclysm.

illidan created you during black temple and were sending you all to missions
We as players raided BLack temple and defeated illidan and you as DH was imprisoned in vaul of wardens for few years i think i don’t know how much time is from BT to Legion
but when yo uwake up you wake up during legion raiding a vault of wardens and there your story as Demon hunter in legion begins
it’s very simple to understand
Technically any character that likes to slay demons is Demon hunter. Demon hunters are special because of their powers, so that is the only thing that makes them different and more effective than some random Rogue or warrior that hunts down demons for fun.

I started playing about a year ago, the game doesn’t give much explanation about past events
and Eating demon´s heart and drinking a blood and control their demon within, then they are bound to the fel magic
