Like Sylvanas who featured in 5 cgi cinematic, 5 in game cinematic and countless cutscne. I think she is the most feautered character in WoW history and lore. There isn’t any other character who featured in more then 2 cgi cinematic
Maybe Thrall?
Not sure about the number but Green Jesus maybe.
Thrall only has featured in only 1 cgi cinematic
I’m actually quite shocked we haven’t received a proper CGI cinematic for Teldrassil along with a lament from Night Elves. There was even a song written for the burning of Teldrassil, but it never got released anywhere except in Collector’s Edition book? Correct me if I’m wrong.
All we got was:
Saurfang, Saurfang, Saurfang, Saurfang and more Saurfang.
I can think of at least three without even trying, 2 in BFA and 1 in WOD
And the fact that he was pretty much the focus of Cata he would have appeared in a fair few things back then.
Do we count WC3 stuff?
Because if we do, then Illidan and Arthas have been featured very prominently.
But as i said he only appeared in one CGI cinematic while Sylvanas has appeared in 5( Legion Cinematic, Bfa Cinematic, Old soldier, Saurfangs Death Cinematic and Shadowlands cinematic. And the last three expantions have been built arround her and as we all know she is gonna be the end game boss in next expansion so we still continue with her and still god knows how many in game cinematic, cgi cinematic and cutscne we are gonna see about her in shadowlands. We are not done with her yet. So no, Thrall is not as popular as she was and she is
He appeared in the cinematic when Saurfang got him out of hiding and he was in Saurfangs death cinematic both in BFA.
He was in the in game cut scene when you go and save Baine in BFA.
In WOD he appeared in the Mak’gora vs Garrosh cinematic
And that is just off the top of my head.
Sylvanas may have appeared in more this expansion, but overall I think he’s on par with Sylvanas over all expansions.
I’d say sylvanas and saurfang top the BfA cynematic presence, particularly the HD ones.
Alongside Thrall, or perhaps even in place of Thrall these days, Sylvanas seems to be a ‘mascot’ character of the franchise currently. She’s easily recognisable (even to non WoW players), she is passionately loved and hated, and an undead elf has that cool factor I suppose. I say this as someone that leans towards disliking Windrunners.
I doubt she’s going anywhere any time soon, but it would be nice for some other interesting characters to have that spotlight in CGI cinematics, too. I might be forgetting - was she even in BfA in-game cinematics that much? I think of Saurfang, Baine, and Nathanos on the Horde cinematic side of things.
Green Jesus, but remember there is more to lore than just cutscenes.
Sylvanas has only been significant of a cross-faction level since WotLK, and even then she faded into the background somewhat till legion.
I don’t see what all the fuss is about, really. There was a time when the only real cinematics you would get were for the arrival of new expansions (or the OG trailer) as far as WoW was concerned.
Blizzard eventually began weaving them into the story-telling, followed by their new use of in-game cinematics, then the often laughable one’s using player models to try and make players feel at least 1% involved in the story. As someone who plays both WoW and FFXIV (which revolutionized MMORPG story-telling as far as I’m concerned), you go from one which has you front-and-centre - the absolute hero - to one where you’ll be part of minor cutscenes but are primarily in the backseat of the car, driven by whatever characters Blizzard decide should be prominent for that moment.
The issue now is people will see this surge of cinematics and assume it is some sort of favouritism or over-use of X or Y, yet the reality is that there will be more than average cinematics compared to the old days and they’ll feature whoever is prominent (story-wise) at the time. If Sylvanas became a killable raid-boss, cinematics aren’t going to stop just because she’s gone, and aside from predictable flashback moments, throwbacks, or a laughable ‘you thought I was dead’ moment and/or redemption arc, Sylvanas wouldn’t be in them.
I don’t dislike Sylvanas but I certainly don’t understand the fuss, either. I just understand that these cinematics became more common around the time she was going to be pushed in the spotlight, and were noticed more as this was around the time they started killing characters left-and-right to set the Legion bar.

Hasn’t Saurfang featured in like 4 CGI cinematics?
The opening cinematic for BfA.
The one where he’s with Zekhan.
The one where he’s with Anduin.
And the one where he fights Sylvanas.
