Is there any point in exploring the old world?

Hello,

Returning player from a looong time. Think the last expansion I ve played was tbc.

Right now, I tried the new exile reach and a bit of bfa. Liked it but I wanted to feel the “travel” thing again.

So I’ve made a worgen which lead me to teldrassil. I’m almost done there and I have the choice to go to the north coast of kalindor or stormwind, and from there traveling south to stranglethorn (that’s how I remember it worked most of the time before) or I assume I can go directly to kul tiras and do bfa and so on.

My concern :
I almost completed teldrassil and I don’t see any plot quest that would led me to some end expansion quest

Also I lvl up really fast which will put me faster than expected to the point in which only the new expansion will give me something (worgen prologue + teldrassil -> lvl 22

I read about chromie but I m not sure how it work exactly, and I don’t want to cut myself from the rest of the world or other expansion, I would just like to feel the “natural path” of the game. I do remember that the game used to feel more natural and that wherever you start, you always end up doibg quite a journey just by following quest plot.

Can you actually play the game outside of bfa and SL without chromie ? And with chromie are you all alone condemned to never meet anybody with the same quest as you ?
Without chromie, is there any point in traveling anymore ? I mean, I didn’t enter one of the two continent and I’m already almost too high lvl for 50 % of the map.
Also if chromie deactivate as soon as you reach 50, isn’t it smarter to activate it right away after being able to control your new toon ?

Help me to understand how wow work now pls. It’s good but it seem a bit more complicated than before.

Oh and if anything, the toon I did create at first had 300gold and suite good stuff at lvl 16
My worgen now only did about 60 gold and has really average stuff

Why are the devs enforcing so bad people to only play in like two or three zone while there is litterally continents and astral worlds to explore ?

Oh and also, If I recall there was far more info on the character tab, lile dps and stuff. Now there is only the current buff you have from your gear and since every buff seem to be different now, I just put on everything I loot that seem a little better and I don’t dare buy anything from the auction house because I don’t know what is good for my build really

It’s easy-to-get levelling xp once you can fly around at level 30. It takes maybe a day or so to do all the zones on one character. Also grab as many treasures on the way (using HandyNotes addons for locations) for easy gold (especially doing Broken Isles, Kul Tiras, and Zandalar (a few hundred gold to earn as a minimum). A few quests are simple “go talk with such and such” or “deliver this item” quests that can be done at the same time.

Also, I’ve not bothered at all with Chromie on any alt whatsoever. It doesn’t impact the availability of quests and in fact allows you more choice of where to quest etc. You just pick up the start quest from the hero notice board and go there. Quests unlock as you become the correct level for a zone though I’ve hardly done them as I’m still doing the levelling from exploring at the moment. Just to give you an idea, I got quite a few alts and all of them except for ONE are now above level 30 with over half the exploring left to do.

Once you finish, you get a quest leading you to Darkshore.

The XP for the older content should be reduced at level 51 onwards (if you’re using chromie time now) so you’re fine for a while.

You won’t cut yourself off, chromie time is pretty open really, I have chromie time set to WoD on my alt but I quest in Legion sometimes too, you’re not prevented from visiting other expansions, but even then you can freely swap expansions with chromie anytime.

Not 100% on the other questions so I can’t help you there.

Well… already before the level nerf this expansion the cataclysm revamp of kalimdor and eastern kingdoms made it so you would outlevel zones pretty quickly and have to pick only a few in order to reach the former lvl 60 progressing into further expansions.

Now it’s designed so that you can get to level 50 by doing just one continent of your liking or a little of everything, at an estimated time of 10 to 15 hours. You can still explore everything, collect tons of stuff, that’s basically the point of old world, old mounts, toys and collectables. Read quest text if you like that etc, obviously not as immersive with grayed out mobs but that’s how it is.

The best option for this is Chromie, imo.

The natural path is disjointed, awkward, and enough to level about 18 characters from 1-60. If you just bumble through, going where the vanilla quests point you, you’ll probably be 50 within the next 3 zones and then the game will summon you to Shadowlands.

And frankly, the older zones just aren’t as good for questing. I’d suggest that Legion, BfA (default), or my personal favourite Pandaria, are far better experiences than you’ll get in Kalimdor or the Eastern Kingdoms.

If you do want to take your time and get the story of wherever you opt for, I recommend the Experience Eliminator in Stormwind. I tend to gain a few levels, then lock experience until I finish a zone, then unlock for the next one, trying to have some sort of progression while not hitting 50 before I’ve done everything I want to do where I am

(Although if you legit wanted to do all the vanilla zones, then each expansion in order… half a level per zone, really. Max. And expect it to take months!)
