Is there any reason why DH and Warrior need a Single target range stun and AOE stun?

can we just prune shockwave and chaos nova? or make them choice nodes with fel eruption and storm bolt.

back in 2002, Muradin the Mountan King in warcraft III had stormbolt before the inception of world of warcraft itslef… so it makes sense to give this to warriors, as the mountain king was the warrior archetype in the prototype version of the game… along with the blade master of course.

Shockwave on retail has a lower cc duration, or has it ? It still lasts like 2 seconds in pvp or something if I remember.

Simply put, you can use them to create cross cc situations like :

  • shockwave the main target and off target so your druid/casterfriend can cc the off target
  • shutdown healer with stormbolt, into another casted cc or trap, whatever fear and so on
  • then proceed to dunk the killtarget and burn through the adverse team’s cooldowns super fast

This is what we call a 1 on 3 situation, and it’s the basic combo that gets very powerful when you take part in coordinated play like 3v3 arenas or Ranked battlegrounds. DH follows the same pattern with a slightly different spin… it doesn’t have Warcraft III precedents with such effects, so it’s purely for balance against warriors.

Most warriors don’t know this and they just randomly stormboltshockwave on cd.

Now the real question you should be asking is …
Why can’t casters like mage or warlock have access to the same mechanics ? With things like Deepfreeze and Shadowfury for instance ? Afterall they should be able to create win-conditions on their own just like warriors and DHs right ? Well, Blizzard decided that it was not allowed anymore after Mop/Wod. Since then the game has been very melee centric and this is a super controversial topic. But the devs haven’t budged in like 10 years so…

So, this is glaringly imbalanced, and there is no objective justification to keep it out.

Maybe it was because at some point Mages had such a proclavity to abuse it for cc in a very scripted way, that it made people rage a lot against RMD especially… the meta was getting super still and stagnant. Then Blizz took it away at the end of WoD, but they kept this ability unchanged for the melees. Mage became the least played class for 6-8 years straight.

Yep, I don’t know why Deepfreeze still isn’t reintroduced at this point… same I don’t know why shadowfury isn’t instant cast.

Maybe someday a dev sees this post and they’ll put it back.

Since Legion, the game is basically balanced around Mythic+ dungeons and there is just a brief pvp overlay patch on top with three talents to pinpoint things around.

It’s very poor and shallow but the devs still think it’s the best thing since hot breadrolls and sliced bread so… I don’t know how to break it to them.

Thing is that they can’t prune anything anymore . During pruning era , many players who enjoyed mythic plus couldn’t compete cause they were outclassed so blizz decided to give everyone a single target hard cc an aoe ccs if they didn’t have so every player can bring something useful into keys

You make good points, bring back deepfreeze.

but they put the cast time on the shadowfury and doubled the CD, justifying it with the fact that it was “excessive”.

It’s a classic example of how developers think

even the warlock does the M+, yet his iconic aoe stun shadowfury is at cast time and they doubled his CD XD

because they are classes that have everything instant while the warlock must cast even to breathe XD

dh god class immune to all casters cant be kited 100% uptime heals for 1000000 and crazy cc

Surely the was a deeper reason SF became cast.

instant shadowfury would be way too insane dude that means u get to a cast a 4 mill chaos bolt

Key difference is SF is ranged and the other mentioned are melee plus shockwave is cone

If I had to list the excessively insane things in this game, I’d finish in some years XD, but it’s possible that some spells have been recalibrated based on the cast-time shadowfury and if it didn’t have a cast time instead of hitting for 6 million it would hurt less.

Of course, if shadowfury instant were brought back, then some talents like impish instinct would have to be eliminated, to be clear.

It would be enough for the darkfury talent to make shadowfury instant but single-target, without a reticle in short

Storm bolt is ok but shockwave must be only prot ability like when it was introduced in wrath.
