Is there anything exciting about patch 9.2?

So… Patch 9.2 is coming within two weeks, and I can’t remember another time in WoW history I’ve been less excited about a major patch.

Maybe the most intriguing thing I’m going to learn is the fate of Sylvanas and how Tyrande is going to deal with her. As for the Jailer… this is the most underwhelming antagonist I’ve ever seen in the game. But I guess I don’t need to play the game in order to learn about Sylvanas. A new novel is coming, but it won’t be around for two more months.

Meanwhile we get a new zone that’s not even slightly interesting. Zereth Mortis, a primal laboratory, what the hell? A true WoW player would like to know more about the fate of Arthas. And if not Arthas, what about the other perished heroes? What about Gul’Dan? What about Varian? For the sake of God… Is Blizzard really going to leave us with an unfinished story - we saw Draka, but not a word was uttered about her husband?

One of the biggest issues I had with Shadowlands was the fact that it was promised to be the Afterlife of Warcraft, but it doesn’t feel like that. True, I was intrigued to play for the first two months after the expansion got released. After all, it was a harry potter-esque universe, four houses, each with their own identity. But the only time it felt I was playing the WoW afterlife was in Maldraxxus. Ironically, it was the only time I met enough deceased characters to remember where I am - Vashj, Draka, Alexandros Mograine, Kael’Thas, Kel’Thuzad.

So… am I missing something about the upcoming patch, or the modern Blizzard writers have no clue about what to do?

Looks like I’ll be stuck in Classic for a long time… At least I hope Blizzard will release WOTLK so people who really care about the classic WoW story will have something to do…

Sounds like an interesting place, I’ll visit often!

Don’t care the least bit about Arthas, but you’ll learn more of his fate during the raid.

You already know this. Tyrande chose regrowth over revenge. So Sylvanas wil receive a “Kerrigan” and “everybody” will be happy. Except lore fans.

Who cares about those? We will know about cartel Ka and Te and Bu and Fu.

Or the modern Blizzard writers are so incompetent so they have no clue about what to do.

And will stop there.

I agree, but I actually think that it’s not because the story is so much worse than it was before, or because it undermines what came before, or because the missed opportunities… I mean, that’s certainly all true to some degree, but that’s not that new. It’s because the mood has shifted, and even the most optimistic players have a problem extending any benefit of the doubt to Blizzard at all. If something stupid happened in the past we would look for ways in which that could be part of a cool idea that the team are introducing over time. If stupid things are happening now, we just think that the devs are doing stupid things.

Shadowlands has been a disappointment to me.

A redundant unnecessary expansion which does not advance the story in any way .

I said it before and i will say it again we should have won the encounter with Nzoth only to find out that we only beat an avatar and being trapped in his realm for what for the PC is a couple of hours but in reality is 5 years .

When the PC returns the PC is no longer seen as Azeroths protector by Azeroth’s denizens but as a deserter who was gone for 5 years while Nzoth freed/revived the other old gods and resurrected the Black empire.

Then the fight begins to retake Azeroth from the black empire and prevent the void lords from corrupting Azeroth.

Story wise… no.

Anything else? Not really for me.

There are a few plot threads I’m curious about how bad they mangle them, Arthas. just what makes the sepulchre so bad? How Sylvanus will get away scot free with doing what Garrosh, did but actually being successful. Why the night elf patron goddess thought it was a good idea to freely let a genocide of night elves happen as a way to help her sister in the afterlife?!? How can the story possibly get worse?

She didn’t. She let the souls pass to the Shadowlands to help her sister, instead of letting them turn to Wisps. Elune did not let the burning of Teldrassil happen willingly, to help her sister.

So … WoW bad because not classic?

Idk, i think it looks lit, atleast beats the disapointment of korthia in terms of the visuals

Story-wise there’s absolutely nothing that excites me about 9.2. Quite the opposite really. 9.2 killed every last bit of care I had left for the story.

9.2 means the end of Shadowlands. That’s pretty exciting !

There is still 9.2.5, and it’s not unlikely that they are moving the Sylvanas-epilogue there…

Oh yea. Yea you’re right. 9.2.5 will be the bridge patch that’ll make the transition to 10.0 though won’t it ? Chances are it won’t even be located in the SL anymore.

Who knows? W know that they said that the only announced feature, cross-faction-grouping, won’t have any story to it. And we know that the Judgement-chapter has disappeared from the 9.2-chapter-list for now. So… I wouldn’t bet on it taking us back home, yet.
