well, i disagree. depending on how good the m+ group is and what content you are doing, mana is most definitely an issue for healers.
Well. It’s not normally no, but if you do content that is challenging for your group, you might face the occational moment of oom. I’d be lying if I said I have never been oom this expansion. There are encounter designs that will punish your healers if you don’t have high enough dps, there are times where you go in over your head otherwise, or you have moments where you are just reckless. It’s not common, but anyone who takes higher chances when healing, will be able to oom themselves if they so wish.
I main healer.
yeah…wasting my mana on dps who refuse to move out of no-no-zones.
my arcane struggles with mana sometimes and it is a resource to be used wisely. Healers are definitely limited by it … all good.
my mana dps don’t worry about it though … which im not fond of
Ah I don’t have much experience with mythic so I can’t comment on that.
I do miss the times when it was more punishing for dps though. Or while lvling healers/doing heroics on them
The only issue with mana is “remember to drink”, M+ is probably the most forgiving content regarding mana issues, except maybe super high tyrannical keys.
Raid on the other hands can still be punishing especially bosses like the first one in mythic EP.
I REAAAAAALLY hate it when mana is a finite resource like in classic. “Yay, I cast 10 frostbolts, so I can’t cast any spells for the rest of the fight.” No skill or management included, you just use your spells until you can’t use them.
well, thats what i said, didnt i?
Well yea…but the way it is now there is hardly any risk at all as dps
As an arcane mage yea, it’s all about mana management, whereas for other specs the only mana consuming ability that I can think of right now is spellsteal. You can’t spam it too long.
Yeah I was just pointing out that even in content like m+ is not really an issue except some particular situation.
I really don’t think it’s good design if a dps class can’t dps anymore because they were dpsing too hard.
I get it being a resource for healers (and it is finite for anyone except hpala right now) to make sure they don’t overheal (there is some skill to that).
But dps should only be capped by how good they are at efficiently using their cooldowns/rotation, not restricted to not-dpsing because they were doing too much of it.
It has a purpose in arena. For healers anyway.
I’d agree it’s useless for casters. Except maybe Arcane Mages.
Couldn’t the argument be that mana management would be apart of doing good DPS
It matters in arena especially when you face a demon hunter who has manaburn and tryhards you with his two buttons.
Fire mage has other mechanics and doesnt use much mana. Try Arcane mage and you’re in for a treat avoiding OOM.
Well how would you manage your mana as dps? You don’t dps? Only use your highest damage per mana ability? Or is there another way I can’t think of. Because these two don’t require any thinking or skill
You tried spamming spellsteal?
No. When would you spam it though?
PvP mostly, but that’s about it I guess. I can’t argue that it’s a very valuable resource for mages outside of PvP.
