I resubbed this month after a long break, went flying in draenor for the first time, emotional…went to rukhmar location, noones there, went to poundfist camp area in gorgrond, noones there. i remember when those areas were teeming with players and now its just gone so sad
Draenor barely has any players, for multiple reasons. Leveling is almost exclusively done by Chromie Time (a phased version which scales with your level up until 50), so you won’t find low level players in the “normal” instance of Draenor. And it’s one of the least popular expansions to begin with, very few people are actually doing content or farming there.
The game isn’t dead, but it’s at the lowest point ever.
Do note that its the ending weeks of the current expansion…
Its not something which has not happened before… like in every expansion’s last days lol.
As it turns out, areas from an expansion 8 years ago are not representative of the state of the playerbase
Phasing, sharding and Discord killed this game and it will never ever recover.
No.
Source: I’d know.
Considering the fact that it’s an 18 year old game, that “should’ve died” ages ago based on it’s age alone, I’d say it’s doing quite fine.
try NA server for lots of people since the game is american and europe is in crisis.
also why would many people be in draenor if current expac is shadowlands?
You are correct. US server are way better. Same language and actual chatting going on. EU is too divided. We should be able to connect US realms. Buying WoW again to play in US only is too much for some people.
you also have the ping…
i mean in us servers you can get rich just by duelling people outside sw…
in europe server=MEHHHHH
(sorry double post im currently almost sleeping) xD
Yes. 80 minimum. Because world leaders are stupid and greedy and didn’t build fiber optics around the globe decade ago.
thats a nice ping tbh, tought NA server would go for 200/300…
im in europe ravencrest and have 40 ping from portugal with 500 mb fiber net…so 80 for na is pretty good!
I get 80 with good wireless router to US Illidan East Coast, buts its over 100€. And there is still slight lag and its noticeable especially in PvP encounters.
Maybe its still worth tough. EU is absolutely dead.
eh lets see if dragonflight is has good has they claim.or its the last nail in the coffin xD
We are 3 days to prepatch.
Next time to have a wider audience try to look for ppl in the caves south of winterspring zone or in westernmost Island of outland nagrand.
Erm, a return trip for light from London to New York takes 40ms alone, never mind any more distance and processing at each end (to California make that 60ms). And the speed of light is a pretty hard limit.
I’ve never heard this question before.
Oh dammit. I really need to finish leveling my pala… but the xp buff is until Evoker gets released or sth like that, right?
Well the EU forums are dead, that’s for sure.
But it makes sense, Europe is going through hard times now, inflation, energy crisis, war.
A lot of people are preparing for a worsening economic situation.
Entertainment is the easy expense to cut off.
I might make the move to the U.S
It just seems to be the place to be. It’s much more alive.
This.
I realise that “Game’s ded lol” is a standard topic on every gaming forum, but it’s an odd time to raise it, in the deepest depths of the winter of the game, when an unpopular expansion is at its very tail-end, and just before the pre-patch.
There will be life returning over the next few weeks.
So I don’t think your observations justify a “Game’s dead”.
There are legitimate considerations, though.
Perhaps you remember Draenor as it was in its expansion. But the game moves on, and the crowds with it. You need to be in Shadowlands to see where people are. As more and more expansions get added, and then left, there is a bigger and bigger surface area for levellers to spread across. And levelling has gotten vastly faster, so people spend less time in previous expansions.
So, with less time spent, and spread across more levelling zones, player density has to decrease. That is inevitable. People have referenced Chromie Time, and that is relevant, but fewer player-hours spent in more space will cause more empty zones regardless of system.
And then there is the design of the devs to force players to spend more of their time in instances. As they do that, people are forced out of the World, and people who like World content are forced out of the game. So that’s another factor.
I’m sure that Dragonflight will bring back players and activity, We can hope that it brings back some life to the World as well. But that activity will mostly be in Dragonflight.
Enjoy your memories of Draenor. It’ll always be there for you. But to see life in the game, you have to go where the latest expansion is.
