Is this load screen line a reference I don't get or just cringey and illogical?

“If you find yourself alone, riding in green fields with the sun on your face, do not be troubled - for you are in Azeroth!”

It easily tops “Smile early and often” in WTFness.

“Don’t stand in the fire” and there’s still people stand in the fire you know

It’s a reference to the film Gladiator. Maximus says it to his troops before battle just replace azeroth with elysium and that’s pretty much the quote.

It only said “fire”!. Not … this greenish … well, fel … fire?

Thanks. Now please explain to me in the context of that movie why they would be disturbed at such a soul-soothing experience? Are they bloodlusting warriors who dread the prospect of peace and everything nice?

If I do watch a loading screen, I mostly look at he pictures. Like on eastern kingdoms.

Varian buffing up in the background.
Lorthemar is like “u wot m8?!”.

ect. … is my life boring?

I’m a loner/introvert, people tell me to smile all the time, and it’s incredibly annoying.
I may be happy and have a blank face, some people are that way.

Because Elysium was heaven, so they must have been killed in battle. Kind of thing that might trouble some people.

It saddens me that we live in an age where people haven’t watched Gladiator. Get some Russel Crow in your life sir

Zoomers probably weren’t even born the year Gladiator came out, can’t blame him

Personally, I just don’t watch shows or movies with humans in them.

I prefer animal shows. Wildlife documentaries, mostly.

Me too. So educational.

Look at Varian’s head and you can tell he ran into some savage trolls in the past.
(Or maybe he received psychological help.)
(Maybe both.)
(Maybe both at the same time.)

"You have to put up a mask of happiness. It makes us feel better. Otherwise we will socially isolate you through more or less subtle means. …
We all have to do our part in pretending."

It’s Crowe. :stuck_out_tongue: And I did watch Gladiator, but that was Aegis ago and I’m kinda Glad i don’t remember.
(Got enough non-fictional bread&circuses and slavery in my daily perception of the world.)

Goats and stuff? And tigers murdering goats? And monkeys doing what monkeys do when someone is filming?

You should see quotes in games where they use Google to translate to different languages XD

Yes! Although goats are rare, since they’re domesticated animals. These shows tend to focus on more exotic stuff, like lions, penguins, insects, antelopes, sloths, elephants, hammerhead sharks, krill swarms etc.

Goats are more common in zoo shows, since those often include petting zoos and goats are positively pet-able. That’s also where one typically finds lamas and alpacas, sheeps etc. But then you have to deal with the zookeepers as well, which are humans and therefore egh.

Who doesn’t love that?

Got some ibex for you.

If they slip and no one has them targeted, there is a 50% chance they fall upwards and regenerate 10% health per second for 5 seconds.

(I guess the space goat stuff you got enough of.)

Most of the loading screen statements are quite cringe-worthy, but the one about “friendlyness will get you invited back” is downright wrong.

You will re-invited if you have good damage and the right achievements. 99% don’t give a rat’s a** about whether you are friendly or not. They’ll take a competitive jerk over a friendly player any day if the former has the best damage. And that is why the competitive jerk thrives.

It’s part of a pre-battle speech given by Crowe’s character, a general of the Roman legion, to his cavalry. He first stresses they need to hold the line and stay with him before saying that quote.

So his cavalry would not be troubled at the prospect of Elysium; rather they would be troubled at breaking formation or getting separated from their group, which is something you wouldn’t want when charging into Germanic barbarians.

Crowe’s line can be summarized as: “It is really important you stick to the plan. But if the plan fails and you are all of a sudden alone and away from this wintery landscape, don’t worry because you’ll be dead and will have nothing to worry about anymore.”

It’s played off as a motivational speech and it makes his men laugh.
