Is tier pieces needed to do real dmg?

Ayo!

Kinda tired of playing my hunter so I’m giving my mage a shot, a played fire in S1 and I did more damage than I do now, which is funny since fmage seems to be gods (for everyone else that is).

I don’t have any set bonus and don’t really know how important it is.

Anyway, do you guys have any tips on how I can do some good numbers in m+ as fmage?

Cheers

Tier pieces still needed to see mages largest dps, i dont know how much % is added but it most defintly would help.

Also since rework fire has changed abit. Might take some time to adjust to its new rotation also

Ye, different talents, different rotation, different secondaries. The tier set is strong but you should be able to do good damage without it. Building up your haste vers gear makes a bigger difference imo. The new builds drops all the talents mastery would benefit from.

Also recommend a @cursor macro for flamestrike as the aoe rotation is extremely fast.

I used the R1 mage talents but maybe that isn’t good for me to start with.

Is the cleave build better than the aeo-heavy one?

Yes, even weak tier sets usually give you at least a 8% dps boost, it’s not insignificant.

AoE one is better in most situations now. That will be being run at a dps loss this week because of bolstering, but won’t be necessary till at least 20s.

I’m just happy if I can go 16 or higher this season.

2-set is important, 4-set a little less I guess, esp. for frost lol

4 set on fire allows phoenix flames to hit for around 100k each when it procs.

If going M+ most of the time you will want the new fire AOE spec and get used to spamming flamestrike on packs for decent damage.

Just bear in mind fire is now about haste then versatility for the most part due to the overal nerfs to mastery talents.

Lot of fun once you get the hang of it.

If going frost pretty sure they still focus mastery as a 2ndary so best to build around what you prefer playing.
