So far I’ve been playing WOD and the garrisons are interesting to me and aswell as the leveling but I’ve seen people hate on it and say its the worst expansion. Share your opinion!
The content it had was really good. Enjoyable levelling, nice story in the zones and the zones themselves look great. The raids are still considered some of the best they ever made and most of the dungeons were fun and fitted in well with the zones stories.
The reason people hate WoD is due to all the content that was announced and later cancelled. We had one of the longest content droughts this game has ever seen. These are just a few of the things they scrapped.
- Karabor as main Alliance hub.
- Farahlon.
- Fungal Whale World Boss
- Shattrath Raid
- Zangermarsh Zone
- Unfinished Battlegrounds/Arenas
- Garrison content like being able to place it in any WoD zone and having different setups for your buildings.
- Bladespire Citadel
- Rank 4 Garrisons
- Gorgrond railway system for easy transport.
- Blood Elf Models came much later than announced, same with Draenei.
- Yrel’s Dark Secret
- Feral Worgen storyline in Shadowmoon Valley.
- Maraad & Yrel relationship
- Flying was introduced later under pressure by the players.
- Tabard Tab
- Ogre Island and Unnamed Large Southern Continent
- Medivh Cameo
- Gorehowl Legendary Weapon
- Grommash Hellscream End Boss
- Broken Horn Village
- New Hairstyles
- Kargath Survives at the end of the first raid.
- Ancient Rylaks
- Orgrim Doomhammer was gonna have a bigger story. They cut it short in Talador.
- Class Accessories
The southern continent looked interesting when i was looking at the map, shame they scrapped it
WoD was fun, the whole garrison building part was the best part
when i was playing WoD , building up your garrison felt great.
its why im happy for player housing too
yes it was
MoP Classic is around corner and then WoD is next. We will find out soon.
I really enjoyed WoD, there were some teething problems with the garrison ofc and we had the SELFIE cam patch which was useless. The raids were great though and I enjoyed the levelling story.
I did go Alliance so I could have a nice garrison instead of that abomination in the snow.
At the time it was quite bad and was one of the biggest turning points in wows popularity, compare WoD to modern wow and it looks great.
Personally I would say that while the things that the first comment lists as scrapped were indeed things many people including myself at the time were absolutely drooling to see in game and later became the source of this whole bitterness surrounding WoD, the content which made it in anyway was in fact quite good, at least aesthetically and it made old Outland enjoyers feel at home yet at the same time unfamiliar.
The main reason I had come to revile WoD by the time it was reaching its conclusion in the Hellfire Citadel, was that I felt extremely baited by following a -somewhat- interesting time paradox/ Garrosh reckoning story, which was built slowly over the zones, come apart in minutes and turn into a “Gul’Dan shenanigans huehue” tale which was just the teaser trailer for Legion.
(In a way, there is a degree of poetry in this considering that the stepping stone for continuing the Legion story they wished they would’ve told in TBC after the Outland campaign, came in the form of another campaign into Draenor. But I won’t play the writers’ advocate).
I also did not appreciate some the cheesy cartoony lines, the abhorrent level of plot armor of the main cast and the entire content surrounding Khadgar and his rings in that tower of his. That bored me senseless. There may have also been other reasons but it has been 10 years and I don’t remember everything.
WoD was not bad in gameplay wise but because it had little content.
Blizzard cut 70% of the content before release and thats the only issue.
Now imagine we have classic WOD with the 70% content they cut added into it. It will skyrocket the expansion into top 5.
Zangarmarsh was cut content? Didn’t the Zangarmarshs only develop after the destruction of Draenor?
AND most likely draw a huge amount of retail palyers back to WoD to finally experience that content
From what i remember there was meant to be a zone and it was gonna be part of a bigger story but instead they just added water to that area and called it Zangar Sea.
Honestly, if they actually added all the planned content to a WoD server i wouldn’t even mind it. At least we’ll finally get what we paid for.
Never thought about that. Good idea actually.
I have only good memories from wod. Ohh the guild breaker gorefiend was a horror though on mythic.
Garrisons missions gave players gazillions of gold some might even have something left from that time.
Raid was fun, i liked hellfire citadel, just not gorefiend.
Garrisons were fun and the quest for the legendarry ring.
I think after a few years people end up liking the bad expansions and seeing their positive aspects. It’s like how now there’s some people who are nostalgic for BFA and enjoyed that expansion and what it introduced, but when it came out it was widely hated.
That is a long list of scrapped content
Indeed, I knew about the abandoned hubs but not much of the rest.
I hated WoD. Since-
- Zones look boring and empty. Like unfinished
- First time LFR drop gears was ugly than normal/heroic. I was unhappy No have much play in LFR with raids
- I’m stucked in Garrison. Like I spams missions when log out.
- When later new zone Tanaan jungle. It’s a lot worst and awful elite enemies. Tried grind for unlock flying.
- My alts cant get in heroic dungeons when failed proving grounds. Only main lucked silver.
- Had nothing much play WOD thing. I unsubbed
I didn’t play it on release but by playing through later it seems really fun to me. I mean I had lots of fun doing WoD content. That’s why I never understood all the hate.
