Been playing WoW on and off over the years, never really been a “hardcore” player. Just enjoyed adventuring and PvP etc.
Took a long break there due to not having a pc etc which has now been rectified.
WoW will always have a place in my heart as its the first ever RPG game or any game really that I put alot of time into over the years.
I was about to resub and get stuck in when a few friends on here and even irl are telling me not to, the straw has finally broke the camels back, yes SL is coming but supposdly it wont be enough and investing any time now is simply time lost?
Thoughts ?
P.s In the circumstances that I do come back, or any new players or returning players in general, is it simply going to be a long catching up game ?
It’s still worth playing if you ask me. Even if things were a lot more easier, especially when it comes to acquiring gear… I started playing a few days ago after god knows how many years… I played Cata… a little WoD, and now Legion… I see Blizzard is spicing things up a bit… it’s hard to adapt to all the new information.
I have just come back myself… in honesty i think the question of if it is worth coming back is a personal one. I am very similar to you in that i had played on and off for years so it had a place in my heart too. Yes it might not be what it used to be but im happy to be back because i enjoy it. Yes it is a time sink but at the same time so is rubbish tv etc and im happier playing this than watching crap tv but thats my personal choice…
It is not a long catch-up. Depends what you mean by “Long”, tho, and what you consider being caught up.
When you buy BfA, you get a boost of one character to 110, so you only need to level 110-120. Even if you start with a fresh character and level all the way, it will take only 25-50 hours /played during the double-XP period up to Shadowlands.
At 120, if you have friends or an active guild who will drag you through, you can get your gear up to 450-460 in a few days. Or you can go the longer route, solo, though World Quests, which will take maybe 4-6 days to get you to about 415, and then quite a long climb to 450, depending on the randomness of gear emissaries. But if you’re playing solo in the world, you don’t really need more than 410 anyhow, though it certainly makes things faster and more comfortable.
You need to unlock Essences and The Cloak. The starting sequences for Nazjatar is about an hour and a half until you unlock Essences. It’s a bit more, maybe 2, 2 and a half, hours for the quests to unlock the Cloak.
You will want Flying. The longest part of that will be the reps.
An entirely new player in this forum recently got ilevel 445, heart to 80, 3 essences, the Cloak, and flying in 12 calendar days, without help, though he was helped by the double-rep that was available for a while.
Honestly, it doesn’t matter what MMO you play, there will always be a crowd saying the game is dying. From what I’ve experienced, it’s really not.
Resub for a month or buy some game time and check it out for yourself. It’s not going to break the bank, and you’ll know if you want to return or not.
People have been unimpressed with BfA, and that’s understandable. But I think Blizz have enough feedback going into SL to fix that. They’ve already made some promises that sound really nice, so I ended up pre-ordering.
No the game is not dying, and while some are skeptical of SL this is more down to how BFA panned out, not because SL looks bad.
The straw hasn’t exactly broken, the game still has multitudes of full servers and more, SL brings alot of things people are hyped for.
Unpruning.
Torghast.
Change of direction.
Removal of infinite grinds.
More cosmetic rewards and optional content
What will make or break SL is realistically its execution and so far blizzard have heard the feedback and reacted to it positively.
BFA may have finally woken blizzard up to reality realistically and no this doesn’t justify that BFA was trash and is the result of them ignoring the feedback provided more so that SL has so far moved in a much better direction.
BFA will be a mound of grind for a returning player.
Reaching 80 with the neck.
Getting the essences unlocked
Farming the gear
Dealing with corruption.
BFA has gotten better, but it’s full of grinds for so many things now as they’ve tried to bandaid the original faulty problem to begin with that there’s quite alot to catch up on.
SL looks good and imho will be good, the tick tock effect in quality has always existed and blizzard has always made tons of mess ups that irritate the playerbase it hasn’t realistically changed.
There’s plenty to do in BFA, if you want to do it it’s not all good it’s not all awful, the game isn’t dying and tbh even current the quantity of players isn’t that low at all
