Yep, always was and never stopped being RPG. Sorry if you dislike QoL changes. You are free to play runescape instead even without written comfirmation that WoW stopped being RPG (Becuase it didnt).
So basically
A functional game = RPG ???

Nice post. I feel the same way. I miss journey/adventure feeling. WoW now is just casino simulator for addicts, chasing numbers (mounts, “achievement” points, rio, dps/hps on warcraftlogs) instead feeling the world.
So no, it’s not RPG anymore.

Well i find modern wow more supportive of a ‘role’ and who you wnat to be than i.e. Classic/Vanilla.
The thing is when we start debating what is a RPG or good RPG we get 10 different opinions from 3 people in the room. It is not a simple quetsion and regardless of communities - be it PnP or video games, LARPs etc.
Heck once I was shut off conversation simply because “You have worked in theatre, so you do not count on explaining how to be a role in a game” as apparently my ability work on stage is not same as ’ normal human playing game after work’. There.
Arguing about RPG is like arguing over politics or religion. People would never change their mind.

profesions should all have 1-2 items that are crafted and slowly upgraded to max mythic raid level stuff
all classes should be unique not copy paste of each other

It still feels like a journey at the start of the expansion or when new zones comes out.
But when we get flying and no new zones comes out it’s just plain boring.
I would say the best thing they could do is to bait players to get flying in a new patch so they have to get exhalted in that area.
Only farming for a new system so we can get more damage is quite lame and lazy, we need something else as a goal. Goals is one of the best reasons to keep players subscribed and that is what Blizzard should focus on.

No more mmorpg than Diablo 3. All the same systems, same gear effects and progression. The never ending hunt for that perfectly rolled item, preferably with a socket. Professions are basically the same as well. WoW is more like a hack ‘n’ slash with an added glamour system you can use to make yourself pretty.

RPG to me means Role Playing Game
Which is still in the game and very much so.
You will never get one he called Puny and few others karma … i will not repeat the last word he said . He is not a decent man or grown up enough to account for his actions . He is bitter and rude and has no remorse.
it really isn’t you have no say in where the story goes as your character it especially got ruined in WoD when the entire plot was basically forcing you to become a “commander” and then legion with class titles and now bfa a champion of the horde/alliance or whatever the hell you’re forced into whatever blizzard feels like that expansion your character’s strength or abilities all depend on blizzard as seen with them completely removing vital aspects of classes for literally no reason and leaving only “useful” abilities for competitive purposes rather than gameplay/roleplay purposes
you can also roleplay in Tetris and imagine yourself as one of the falling blocks does that mean tetris is an rpg? the more you know I guess

Go to Argent Dawn and watch how good honest people who are good natured in heart and mind role play the game .
You wouldnt understand that because all you are intrested in doing is being rude to other posters and being hateful .
I pity you and your actions you have so much hate and anger in you that you have to lash out and mock others . I only hope one day you see sense and snap out of it . You might not care what people think of you now but believe me it gets lonely and boring acting how you do.

For me the biggest difference with it’s past is that they forgot the Metzen motto: “The world is the main character”. Among other things, I think one of the reasons MoP is missed today as one good expansion is because they got that part right.
How exactly did MoP make the world as the main character and the current game doesn’t?
