Back on Legion I used to earn enough gold to buy a token without even leaving the capital city. I just bought ores, prospected them and cut all the rare/epic jewels I found into some gems and just resold them on AH with a decent profit. Now it’s impossible and I mean really IMPOSSIBLE to earn gold via prospecting (ore shuffling).
I’ve done many tests; every time writing the results down and calculating everything in Google sheets. Every single attempt (with bismuth, aqirite and ironclaw - 1/2/3 rank) ends up in loosing money. No matter what ore at what price I buy - when prospected always makes me lose gold.
I invested all my knowledge points into prospecting and those points are not refundable (even when you unlearn your profession and learn it again) which pretty much means I’m screwed for this whole expansion and I will not earn a penny until the market prices change.
Is there anyone who has some advice? How the hell do you earn gold as Jewelcrafters? Has anyone tried prospecting and actually earned some gold? Help me. I’m clueless.
I never understood why they made professions so difficult .it used to be such a relaxing excercise .going outside in world of azeroth ,gather materials ,come back craft them .earn some gold .
Probably there are too many crafters.
I had the same issue virtually every time I tried to supply stuff myself.
Even before bots. Everyone can stand in a city while watching a video.
Therefore I ignore professions entirely recently.
Too much hassle, bag space and money sink.
The ways to solve this revolve around constant demand for materials:
Mechanically encouraging people to have crafting professions (like WLK stats)
Mechanically encouraging everyone to rotate professions
Everything is soulbound crafted: craft your gear, craft your gems, enchants, flip back to alchemy for consumables (cooking and first aid requires oils, herbs, pots and needles)
Repeat every patch if you want 100.0%, flip-flop when you run out of spices, flasks, etc.
Inflating / Permanently braking gear so that you constantly need new stuff (like arrows and thrown weapons used to be - or alchemy & cooking)
Using crafting mats in recipes, such as pots for cooking
It might devolve professions to pot factories, though, like the only use of smithing for me was Belt Buckles
But that also means that people can’t have gathering, so you’d want to decouple crafting from gathering and allow everyone to gather everything.
To me it sounds like it’s optional. To make (big) money you have to do something in demand. Something special.
Lol, you wanted to flip mats from AH to make gold? Good thing it’s not profitable, what were you thinking?
1 ways to make easy gold with professions using AH: Concentration. Rank 3 Reagents still cost a lot more than Rank 2,so just make sure you don’t cap out on Concentration, and effectively spend it to make Rank 3 reagents.
Back in Legion AH wasnt region wide and you didnt compete in prices vs all EU prospectors, you only competed vs your server crafters.
Larger markets tend to have everthing cheaper and that is the case with region wide AH.
Second, it is the end of the season and demand has gone down since most players are geared.
And putting all eggs in one basket never ends well (like you did focusing on prospecting only), you dont have plan B if prospect market goes down.
the best bet is to sell boes, or flip. selling some mogs and pets works well as well from my experience.
getting some good tips on crafting too but crafting for sale? man that’s a waste rn
OH NOES i must go and do actual honest work and put some effort to earn some gold
how would i live ?
im so sad for you man i wish you find some new lazy gold making method
(i have one, but i put enormous effort unlike some people to make it work)
i have every max craft profession across 12 classes
my jewel crafter doesnt make any profit from gems anymore
honestly the best Gold maker is enchanting
run delves / follower dungeons
disenchant gear
sell materials
rinse and repeat
you can also buy cheap gear on the AH and get more materials from disenchanting them for profit
or buying honor gear / world pvp epic gear and disenchanting them
or do timewalking for gear and disenchant
you’ll make between 200g - 1000g a piece depending on the value of the dust or shards per item
keep the rank 1 and rank 2 materials and try to concentrate them into rank 3 enchants if you have the value
otherwise just sell all materials
There’s zero bars to most activities that make money. It’s a bit like herb gathering.
I need gold. Go gather herbs. Gather herbs. I make no money because everyone is herb gathering. Generally speaking you’ll only make money during the starting weeks of an expansion unless you find an undiscovered niche market.
This was the case in DF as well, after a while everyone have maxed professions and the only gold maker is resourcefulness or multicraft procs, selling mats directly, using alactricy, mettle or concentration, instagibbing high tipping customer orders or creating low demand items that have higher profits but sell less often. I’ve never expected to make gold from the professions in TWW.
I’m expecting the mats to fluctuate so probably mass buying some mats certain days and flipping them when they are more expensive is the gold maker, just as it was in late DF. Im making most of my gold selling profaned tinderboxes or mainstat buff from hc bonus chest. It should be around 10k/h if you are clearing a dungeon or delve in 10 min or less.
I think the only thing you can make money on now with professions is by ‘selling concentration’. That means making things that require concentration. Thats the only thing that is still ‘rare’.
Edit: I see now that I am not the first one to say this.
I think that prospected gems are cheaper because they are less random than legion and because people realise ore is more valuable as it has multiple uses.
