Ah, a sleep-walker. Or couldn’t stay asleep during the long nap. I see how it is. Heck I sympathize. Who wants to roll the dice and wake up as a new baby, when ye could keep all the things ye’ve learned and know. Still, bein’ you must be the pits. I mean the creaky joints, the aches and pains, is it worth it to keep what YEW know?
It’s just the feeble and outdated character creation. Everquest 2 is FAR superior and it came out at the same time as WoW.
The best they could do is add a couple of builds for each race. Slim/thin, average and muscular/large (whatever they want to name them in a way which of course will need to be excessively PC). Very like SWTOR.
It would be good for things like a slender built Orc Warlock. Or perhaps something quite like Diablo 3’s female Barbarian if you want to look like a stronk warrior. Lots of physical activity like being a Warrior would just result in big muscles.
Hmm, makes sense but I suspect if I go a-strollin’ down there some natives might attempt to give me reason to need a chiropractor. Which is not exactly what I be looking for.
Well anyway, I’ll add that to me list o to-dos when I’m havin’ me death rattle.
Female orcs are still very curvy and have pretty faces.
Blood elves are buff, have broad shoulders and big square jaws. The only ‘feminine’ thing about them are the hairstyles (half of which show a receding hairline…).
I had the idea to make a mage character based on Terry Pratchett’s Rincewind the wizard. Tall, thin, kind of weedy looking human male with a bit of scruffy beard. Not possible because the only male human body shape we have is big and muscular.
We could have so much fun with alternatives to the generic ‘hero’ build.
WoW is in a weird state in terms of customisation in general. On the one hand we’ve got far more races than any game I’ve ever seen, but on the other hand the bodies are completely fixed and static. You can’t change height or build or bulk.
What you’re looking for is, and correct me if I’m wrong here, body mass sliders, right? Including ways of enhancing or reducing the hourglass figure or indeed give the character less or more muscle, including different types of muscle and fat distribution?
Cause that’s what ESO has, and most other modern MMORPG’s for that matter.
Personally I think it’d be fun if our character’s bodies subtly changed appearance depending on our stats. Got a lot of agility? You become lean. Got a lot of strength? You become huge. Got a lot of intellect? Your character will get different facial expressions that look more aware and alert.
That would be fun. But, of course, this would require Blizzard to actually implement immersion and RP-focused animations, and that hasn’t happened even once for like 15 years, so I’m not holding my breath. We basically got what we got and that’s it. How about another hair style?
You have pointed the main issue with this game when it comes to customizations and even storytelling. We don’t need that many races but more developed, fleshed out ones on all fronts that offer more variety in their customizations. I blame the imbalance of the races treatment on their ridiculously high numbers, but the fact that there won’t be any allied race coming from the Shadowlands makes me think that the developers get it. Sort of, since we’re still getting a new race with Dragonflight.
