This system is no longer good in retail especially as A DPS role. Every single day, people who have crazy amount of time or just more time or have more luck increasing their item level while you stay on the same ilvl or just get 1-2 ilvl upgrade while others get 5-6. All the important content from M+ to Raid, gives you hard time to join as a dps role because you are competing with tons of people and many of them being more ilvl than you, therefore gets a priority. Even if you are 613 and someone else is 614, they get the inv priority. Being dps and having less time or just playing casual or just being unlucky with item drops for some time, gets you in big disadvantage and destroying hype in you completely.
Look at community, everyone is posting their m+ applications all starting from 200+ only highest ilvls getting invited even if they are higher by 1 which is literally a 0 dps difference. What’s worst is that, item in your bag also counts as ilvl, so someone with 3-4 useless items in their backpack can get invite over your equipped item ilvl because they are shown higher ilvl.
At this point ILVL system needs to be changed completely, we need something different. This is getting boring, s1 is started recently and many dps role players already started to quit. Running our key is also not an option, you need different dungeons, you need different + keys, you can’t just use your key all the way down and plus nobody cares when they see 1 single dps unless they need the dungeon so badly.
So yeah, somehow ilevel needs to be redesigned to something else or wow will never go 1 step further.
The new system, heck any new system, that may replace ilvl will have absolutely the exact same problems as ilvl. Players will always be able to reduce a character’s combat prowess down to a single numerical value, be it Item Level, or Gearscore, or Attack Power, or number of played hours inside an instance.
So what’s your suggestion? You want every DPS player to have equal power regardless of their level of skill or time they spent on their character?
Then people will invite whoever has the highest score (which I’m pretty sure still won’t be you).
Plenty of ways to fix that tho by just introducing cash shop stuff.
Just add things to the blizz store that people can buy.
Valor stones, crest and more, I’ve been playing so many different MMORPGs that i’ve seen all the ways companies have added stuff like upgrade currency, gear and other player power stuff buyable with CC
Invites has nothing to do with ilvl. People have 50 dps players signing up to their key runs, there are 3 dps spots. If they removed ilvl the only measure would be skill, good luck getting invited then because you don’t play enough to be good at the game.
