It's a high time for a WOD Classic announcement - or an announcement about Classic's future

Around that time last year I was busy playing Cata Classic and almost didn’t touch retail. The Shadowlands wound was far too fresh in my mind, and Cata Classic appeared to be moving forward well. With the announcement of MOP Classic (which almost seemed certain anyway) I had the necessary inspiration to play and was fully committed to play.

This year I find myself mostly playing Legion Remix and barely touching Pandaria Classic. I finished the 5.1 Alliance and Horde questline, got the mounts, got “What a Long, Strange Trip It’s Been” during Hallow’s End and … that’s it… I stopped playing.

Blizzard, I don’t like the current mood.

I don’t like the recent leak - that MOP Classic is ending soon with era realms or transfer to retail. Neither of these options are appealing to me. In fact, I think this is the main reason I stopped playing.

But most importantly - the community needs answers.

Players complain that the realm population is dwindling - perhaps, Blizzard would think, it’s the perfect time to pull the plug of Classic. But the reason people (myself included) have stopped playing is that they don’t see that Blizzard are committed to the Classic version of the game.

IF Blizzard are committed - I assure you - I’ll play. Other people would play. Warlords of Draenor is my favorite expansion story-wise, atmosphere wise, music wise - yes, I was not a fan of the original long gaps of no content, but when the content was available, I enjoyed it. I enjoyed WOD in general, I enjoyed Legion. I enjoy Legion Remix. I will play WOD Classic and Legion Classic.

But I don’t see commitment.

There are a lot of questions Blizzard needs to answer about WoW Classic. I see that the devs are clearly excited about retail. I get it. Housing will be cool, it will bring a lot of roleplayers back to retail. Remix is cool. Midnight is shaping out to be cool as well with the upcoming Silvermoon revamp.

I don’t see Blizzard being even 10% committed about Classic. There are a whole lot a questions we need answered. I’m personally a fan of WOD and hope for WOD Classic, but this is NOT the only version Blizzard is silent about. We, the Classic players in general, are in the same bucket of suck. Anniversary players want to learn when they’ll get Burning Crusade. They want to learn whether they’ll get WOTLK after that. And, of course, Vanilla players expect to know more about Classic Plus. Will it happen - or it won’t? Even those of us (like me) who hate private servers and avoid them like plague know that Classic has a turtle problem.

Come on. The Classic community needs answers - and we need them very soon, so we should know whether it’s worth to commit our times and efforts in this version(s) of the game. We’re way past the point when silence is the appropriate way for Blizzard to behave.

Agreed mate. We are playing the biggest Classic community of all, the progressive Classic. We deserve some love and we would love to know if there will be WoD Classic (and then of course Legion Classic) or they are going to call it a day and focus on creating the new Classic Plus. I am not very keen on the idea of transfering my MoP chars to Retail since I stopped seriously playing in Shadowlands, so if there is no WoD I will probably cancel my sub and wait for the big Classic Plus release in the next year.
WoD Classic with a faster content cadence and some tweaks (and maybe the Shattrath raid) could be a magnificent expansion, a raidlogging one yes, but still pretty good.
Remember Blizz, MoP Classic is still more popular than Hardcore, Era and Anniversary and SoD combined.

I feel the same way — I’m really torn about what to do. If MoP ends and Classic stops there, I might be done with WoW for good. But if we continue into WoD and Legion, I’d absolutely throw myself into the game, keep building up my character, and stockpile my collection tab.

And after Legion, if they either merge it with retail or keep Classic as a parallel version that’s a few expansions behind, I’d genuinely love that.

Anyway, I hope we get some answers soon. I don’t feel very motivated to play right now with all this uncertainty.

MoP was announced 13.11.2024 and Cata was released 20.05.2024

I think they will announce something during Phase 3

Very well, but it’s typically in November when Blizzard publishes the so called “roadmaps” - cool graphics about what to expect next year.

We badly need this right now.

The server consildation gave me the impression that MoP will be the end of Classic. We’ll get permanent MoP servers with an option to copy/transfer into retail. I don’t mind this at all since I do not intend on playing WoD.

Currently, the classic community is split into too many parts. Legacy, TBC, Hardcore, MoP classic, SOD etc.

It is likely that they will wind down Classic servers soon in preparation for Classic+ in late 2026 or 2027 so that they maximize the number of players for that project.

Why would you think that?

Why make healthy servers when the game is gonna end anyway?

Same, but what leak are you talking about? That poll when Blizzard asked if anyone wants MoP Era or transfer to retail?

I like MoP very much, one of my favourite expansions and currently I am 1 challenge mode instance away from 4th character with CM gold achievement (Mage, Druid, Hunter and 8/9 BDK) with Prot Paladin and DC priest geared up and prepared for CMs. However I don’t see myself playing MoP forever.

But it doesn’t mean they should hurry up MoP and announce Draenor strait away. Anyone with half of the brain understands that Blizz want to exploit Legion and for that they would make WoD, but on shorter duration, like 10 moths at the most.

I was talking about a recent “leak” circulating on reddit and Youtube. I don’t know how credible it is, but it claims that MOP Classic is the end for the 2019 servers - then you either stay on MOP era, or transfer to retail.

None of the options appeal to me.

He is talking about this:

https://www.reddit.com/r/classicwow/comments/1ojpsp6/do_you_think_this_is_accurate/

which sounds like completely made up bs lol, not to mention that 4chan leaks have been insanely wrong before

Didn’’t they consolidate SoD servers before they ended supporting that game version?

I dont know. But its a seasonal server, hardly comparable.

kind of all fits together to kill off and game consolodate everyone raise gold token prices let gdkp’s run riot give us same spammable boring content then say ohh btw this ends now no more devs working on it buh bye.

Im quite sure there going to be legion classic so MoP not going to be last one. WoD maybe somekind short version if they move legion after MoP

Personally, I would be very happy if MOP continued with WOD, because if not, then there is really no point in what we are doing, absolutely none.

I really hope they don’t skip the WOD. If they shorten it, they should shorten it. Personally, I loved it, but that’s just me. If people don’t like it, then it should be shorter, but we should still have enough time to progress through the content in a healthy way.
