I imagine it depends on what class you choose. You can level anything on one character. I think I hit 50 ish but the combat is dull for me.
Nothing wrong with those who prefer it. There are things I like and dislike about the game.

on the contrary OP, for me since around legion it has felt like i’ve been spoiled with how fun my classes have been, and its making the decision to play classic really tough because while I do like the game itself from the olden days, it’s just not comparable how it feels to play disc/hpriest on retail vs any classic expansion.
I feel like classes are pretty fun and different now, it has been way worse a few years ago when every class felt like a reskinned version of the same ST builder + AoE builder + ST spender + AoE spender + 2 min defensive CD + 3 min offensive CD
To be honest, I played MOP with multiple classes, and yes, alot of them were really good. However, the reason is also abit psychological if you ask me.
a) MOP was after Cata which was quite bland in terms of class design. MOP also introduced the new talent trees, plus alot of CDs were added (I played boomkin for example, and it was omg compared to Cata)
b) Everything was just overpowered as hell. It was like no idle time, classes were omega pumping all time long which was not really good in PVP.
c) Majority of people mentioning how class design is bad, played in the MOP era, and since it was the best, they won’t accept anything else due to nostalgia. The ones that didn’t play MOP, don’t know how it was so they just go to with the flow.
I personally feel Legion had some way better class / spec combinations than MOP (fury warrior, fire mage, frost mage, arcane mage, ele shaman, resto shaman, all 3 priests etc etc.), but that’s just me.
The only time where majority of classes really sucked and weren’t finished, was BFA, especially at the start. After the essences / corruptions, it was very fun, but that’s just borrowed power, and MOP actually had none if you count out the tier sets and legendary cloak & meta socket.
I played fury, holy priest and all three mage specs out of those you listed and the only one that kept me entertained for more than 2 weeks was the fire mage. There are fun classes to be found in modern wow, but a lot of them just feel too… bland. There’s nothing happening in the rotations.
That’s the massive blunder with classes since legion, ie they’re not functionnal without relying on those borrowed powers…
I would say it depends. While I agree immedeataly about Arcanmage or Demonologywarlock, I would disagree with the affliction and destruction warlock and the combat rogue. While Demonology got some more identity beside “I have a strong demon” and Arcan got finally some gameplay early. Rogue got totally his identity destroyed with Legion while I think Affliction and Destruction got overloaded.
About Paladin I can not say. I think Protpala plays now only different. Not better or worse, different.
I agree. A lot of classes are extremely hollow in comparison to older expansions.
