It's ok to say hello, hey, or even o/

I love WoW but the interaction between players has gotten worse and worse. 80% of the groups I join for M+ or any other content don’t greet you, respond or say a word for the entire dungeon. It’s a little sad for an MMO.

I’m here to say it’s ok to say hello :grinning: (I always do when joining groups)

Not quite. And Hi

Yep. This generation has become less and less social. People have started lacking even the basic human interactions of greeting each other.

I want to go back to the old days of no internet.

Yeah a simple hello is fine, but talking throughout the whole dungeon can be distracting especially towards people who aren’t very social.

I remember the last time people talked it was to debate wether to kick the tank or not because he was confused during the maze part of Mists of Tirna Scithe (heroic) not even M+

I argued he did nothing wrong and a big fight happened between the tank and DPS and I’m stuck in the middle, trying to calm everyone down and say focus on finishing the dungeon.

Many people these days faint at the very idea of interacting with other people. I guess that’s the price we pay for globalisation and social media deployment.

And I agree that it’s kinda sad when you get nothing in respond to a simple “hi” after joining a group. Sometimes I feel as if I’m alone in the dungeon despite there being 4 more people.

Hello there !

Certainly, which is quite odd as we even have the means of making connections easier…

Looks like internet has backfired.

Deep inside I too would. But in that case I couldn’t keep in touch with the small handful of frens I made

I had to… :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Yeah, I agree 100%. I’m the one always saying ‘Hi’, even when joining TW dungeons or something via queue, let alone M+ or raids.

It pisses me off so hard seeing that people are unable to respond, and stay silent throughout the whole dungeon.

I joined a Trial of Style yesterday, here’s how it went…

Palivar: Hey, everyone. Here’s hoping we get a good catagory!

Paladin: S T F U

Hunter: kek

We used to kick anyone, before starting obviously, who couldn’t be bothered saying anything. Worked quite well in reducing the amount of leavers at the same time.

This is because you can only report people for language by right-clicking their names in the chatbox, and people are abusing this to punish leavers or other players who didn’t do well enough in the run according to their standards, so some people opt to say nothing whatsoever so they have the option of being a toxic leaver. Now, being a leaver isn’t against the rules but Blizzard doesn’t actually check what you did before actioning your account.

It’s really awful and I don’t like people doing that in my groups…

These two are related

My advice is to get rid of them. Kick 'em before you start.

I wrote this on Reddit, too - that I’d say a couple of sentences and a hello - no interrogation, just a quick check that they can speak English and are willing to use the chatbox a little bit, and half of the WoW subreddit lost their minds because Reddit is increasingly turning into a forum for… let’s call them unsavoury people. :frowning:

The way the game is advertised is misleading and is to blame for the way you feel now.

What’s the easiest way to spot new/naive players?

They will say hello in chat.

Gaming is a competitive toxic environment and not the friendly one it’s advertised to be.

Personally I think those people don’t communicate because of say 3 main points:

  • Social Anxiety (tbh I have no idea why they play an Online game in the first place then with SA problems)
  • Bad social experiences in the past
  • Simply no interest in interacting with other people (they probably see us as “annoying extroverts” just for saying “hello”)

In the old days of no internet, I could go days at a time without socialising, seeing or speaking with anyone. I didn’t even know what was going on in the world.

The internet (and WoW specifically) has given me an amazing social life that I wouldn’t have had otherwise.

Its only bad in PvE related instances, so far ive noticed. Which is why i refuse to pug any.

When i came back to wow in 2021 after i quit during cataclysm, i tried do some dungeons and people didnt even say hi and voted to kick you out just because you died once. It almost made cancel my sub.

People in battlegrounds and the open world are alot more friendly. Even cross faction people are alot more friendly and respectful towards each other.

Meeting random people in goldshire (both alliance and horde) was enough for me to keep playing during the last few months of shadowlands. Dragonflight came with alot more sharding and it was a ghost town again

The bad apples are everywhere but they seem to be concentrated in dungeons and raids

Is it okay to say yo?

I stick with hello, hey, or hi. It’s safer grounds. :yum:

Sometimes you just gotta let go and take a walk on the wild side.

I’ve heard of folk being kicked for this at the start of a dungeon.
Not sure if it’s a true story but it’s indicative of the state of the PuGing scene in WoW that I can’t dismiss it outright.

People don’t get kicked for saying hello. If someone who has just been invited to a key is kicked almost right away, it’s pretty much always because a group of players that covers everything the group needs (tank, heal, lust, enrage dispel, etc) has just signed up and the lead kicks someone to make space. I don’t like it, and wouldn’t do it myself, but I understand the reason why people do it.

The other reason would be because a friend or guildie has just asked to join, so the stranger is kicked to make space. Again, not something I would do without a word, but I’ve been in guild groups where we’ve apologised to the pug before removing them to make space for a guildie who has just logged on.

The only time I have kicked someone without a word is when I’m the lead, and they haven’t responded to my and other group members’ greetings.
