It's time to remove festering wounds from the game :)

The mechanic is outdated, slow, clunky, makes switching targets tedious and limits the flexibility of the unholy spec. I get it, it’s there to maintain some sort of feeling of rotation by making festering strike relevant after the rune system revamp, but switching by applying diseases (or spreading existing ones from your current target to others, rip pestilence) still feels better than spamming festering strike on a scavenger hunt for purply boys in the enemy’s debuffs. It’s overstayed its welcome by a lot, time to go.

It is so badly designed that the main “mechanic” of the spec is literally ignored in AoE

i to think festering wound should be removed unless blizzard add talents in that make this combo point mechanic more interesting

i stil wonder why apoc did not get a Choice nod were you can make it do 3 different things

  1. it converts festering wounds in to a new dot festering plague that will deal more damage based on every unique disease you have applied to the enemy target

  2. your apoc now turns in to a longer cd that needs to be channeled on to the enemy target for massive damage and after the channel is over you get a buff called unholy empowerment buffing all your stats

  3. your festering wounds does not deal damage any more but for every festering wound you pop you summon an army ghoul so in short when you apoc it’s 4+4=8 ghouls and 1 for every scourge strike/clawing shadow you press

also a side note why haven’t the abomination talent from the pvp tree been added in to the unholy talent tree it’s so strange when this talent makes so much sense to have deep in the unholy tree plus they should really bring back necrotic plague as a end talent in the unholy talent tree

another thing i wish to see is the skulker talent being buffed in the sense that you summon more skeletons than just the skulker by that i mean you now get 4 permanent skeletons one warrior this one can use charge, cleave, plague strike that applies virulent plague
one magus that cast frost bolt, shadow bolt
one skulker that shoots arrow volley, skulker shot
one skeleton necromancer that cast death coil, buffs ghoul frenzy to an army ghoul one at the time, when enemy target dies it summons two skeletons for X amount of seconds to fight.

The unholy new tree can give you almost 3 ways to get wounds in an aoe scenario.
Pestulant pustules, clawing wounds, festering strike which helos but not perfect by any means, will still be lackluster.

the process isnt that the mechanic is bad its building wounds so rigidly thats the problem.

Possible additions to help would be:

DnD should also affect festering strike to keep a way of adding mid rotation.
Crimson blood should be in the baseline tree or as a baseline move to create a way to reset it for all specs.
Lose the RNG on fester strike it should default 4 wounds.
Then add auto attack rng to add wounds with auto swings.

really hope they bring the mop / wod version of necrotic strike back

I’m not sure how exactly mop/wod necrotic strike worked cause i’ve only ever played with the bfa and cataclysm iterations of the spell, but both of those seemed better than necrotic wounds. I miss that button a lot too.

necrotic wounds is not good i agree.

but cata/mop necrotic strike had alot of changes to get it balanced, it used to reduce cast speed by 10% ontop of the healing debuff

edit: it was slightly overboard, was 25% cast speed but at the end was nerfed to 10%

  • Mists of Pandaria|(2014-01-10): Necrotic Strike now reduces player targets’ casting speed by 10% (down from 25%).

Just add one talent that sounds something like this:
Crypt Fever TALENT
Replaces Festering Wound
Your Festering Strike on hit gives you 4 stacks Crypt Fever for 20s (buff).
Each hit from Scourge Strike and Death Coil consumes one stack and infects the target with Crypt Fever.
Deals x% dmg over 4s.
Also Apocalypse gives you 4 stacks.

Btw.
PLS finally removing or replace (crypt fever talent) the outbreak talent or adding it to a festering strike and adding crypt fever talent in place of outberak.

Agreed. Was unholy from release until this mechanic was added. Tried it for half a year to get used to it, hated every second.
