It's worth starting WOW journey now?

Hi,

I’m total rookie, never played WOW but want to finally give it a try. But with current hate around new expansion, all drooping numbers in community and people saying game is running out of content (only some sort of “old gods” left to kill) I start to feel like I’m going to invest my time and money in product that will die soon.

It’s worth to start playing and ignore angry old players?

Only really applies if you’re a very active player who’s been and done everything BfA has to offer at least once.

8.2 will supposedly make the game a lot better again but that’s a wait and see. For now though there is a TON of stuff to do for a new player, just like most mmo’s if you’re new

They’ve proved that they can conjure expansions out of thin air (Mists of Pandaria) and do really well with them so here’s to hoping there’s more of them! The Warcraft Universe will likely never run out of content as it’s fairly easy to produce more.

It’s really not going to die soon. The doomsayers have been at it for 15 years now and the games still pretty much the top MMO out there number wise.

Don’t forget that you can just play on and off for a month or so at a time to digest the content at a slow pace. I’m currently on a break until 8.2 so I’m playing FF14 and enjoying all the content there. Once 8.2 is out I’ll have a break from that and play WoW a lot again :stuck_out_tongue:

well you wont miss anything you never knew, however at this point blizzard is just milking their hardcore audience.
i dont think anybody that starts now will get as attached and invested as someone who started pre cata.
but in all honesty its not worth investing any time in bfa it just feels meaningles

product won’t die soon enough to the point where you’re not getting the value of the investment back. wow is a fairly cheap game when you first start, you get hours fo levling your first character, all the mogs you will want to collect, the gearing, the unlocking of things, getting used to your class, pve, pvp, everything.

A basic AAA console solo game is way more pricey per hour bought than wow, as long as you play it regularly enough to make the mointhly sub worth the investment.

If the game will die it won’t happen over night. And as a new player you not only have “current” content to experience but also have a lot of content from previous expansions you can play through so there’s plenty of content for you to do.

You can just buy month of game time and try it out. It’s not that expensive. And if you want to buy BfA or a complete collection that contains month of game time and BfA it’s quite a good time. It’s currently on sale until the end of the month.

If you are new then you have hundreds of hours of fun to be had.
The game wont die for at least a few more years, even if it is declining somewhat.

And even you dont enjoy this expansion, there is so much you can do outside of it as a new player that it won’t matter.

Try it, you’ll love it

I am old but not angry

I have played for 12 years and I love to see new people joining the game… You can give it a try, but be sure to find yourself a nice community or guild

WoW won’t die Everquest is still going!

And this should be enough. If you want to try it - don’t ask people whether it’s worth it, just give it a go and see for yourself. Perhaps you’ll like it, perhaps not, but the reality is that you’ll never know until you try.

It’s not even that’s expensive - you can currently get the whole package (including the most recent expansion and a 30 day subscription) for 35 Euro.

There’s always quite a bit of negativity about the most recent expansion, so while I agree that BfA isn’t a particularly great expansion, take the hate with a grain of salt. Besides - you might like it, who knows.

That’s just not true - based on some recent financial reports, WoW is still a very profitable game, so I’d be shocked if BfA turns out to be the last expansion. I’d say that there’s at least 1-2 more to come.

It’s not going to die soon. Battle for Azeroth itself likely has about 1-1,5 year left and there’s a very, very high chance that there will be more expansions, which will likely take about 2 years each, so I’d say that WoW will be getting new content for at least 5-6 years.

As for “dead” in terms of “there are no people left to play with” - I don’t know, but once you reach max level there’s quite a lot of people you can play with. I mean, there’s a good chance that WoW’s population has taken a pretty big hit in BfA, but I reckon it’s still one of the biggest MMOs out there.

So yeah - it’s true, the current expansion does have some issues, but I wouldn’t say it’s anywhere close to dying, so… Just try it - if you get into the game, you’ll definetely get at least a couple more years where you’ll be able to enjoy it.

The code has been polished to near perfection over more than a decade and stuff just works.
The World is Enormous, the new Kingdoms are Gorgeous, the Dungeons and Raids are of an astonishing variety and scope, the classes are fun to play, the spells are pewpewpew.
You are coming at it fresh so you won’t notice any of the gripes and moans that you see from the veterans on these forums.

Jump in and find good people to play with, you will have endless fun.

WoW is still unique and the only WoW killer is, &/or will be, WoW itself.

I think you gonna love the game… just try it

Yes! It is worth it if it is kind of a game you enjoy. Give it a try, you can always stop if you don’t like it.

Don’t mistake old players as angry. There can be heated discussion on forums and players can be complaining about things, but that is not because of hate but because people care about the game and want it to succeed. We got so many different kind of players that not everyone agree which is the right way, so we discuss.

Welcome to WoW!

The game is definitely worth it.

Just make sure you find a nice community or guild of people to play with. If you’d like I can show you the ropes and help you get started

If you have never played I would say give it a go for a month. There is fun to be had, but most of it will occur when you are playing solo doing World Quests and whatnot.

Having said that, the game is now objectively the worst it has ever been and you are showing up about 8 years late to the party at this current time. The other people you will be forced to interact with to get anything done endgame, which is mythic+, are some of the biggest jerks on the planet and they will look down on you and decline you from ever getting a group higher than +2.

No. All the neck grind you are forced to do becouse of the azerite gear. Also the RNG

I hope you gave it a good go over the free weekend and it helped you make up your mind.

There’s no danger of the game dying/shutting down any time soon, so don’t worry there.

If you like the story/races of Warcraft, then you’ll like aspects of BFA a lot.

Its worth starting playing? No, current expansion does not worth your time!

That’s a question only you can answer, if you like the game then play it, and don’t listen to Doomsayers, if you don’t like it don’t play.

Never take others opinion before your own.

Wow is a semi-rpg instance based game now, its mostly a game where you go and collect things since most of the stuff that you farm will be useless in a under a month or so since you will find a upgrade to it + world environment is useless as everything is instance based ( PVE and PVP )

It all started with the trial of crusade in Wotlk where gear obtained from previous raid became so useless.

For example, In classic t2 mage was very strong since it gave you instant cast proc from spamming r1 arcane missle, frostbolt and firebolt which you can then use instant pyroblast without the presence of mind… In fact t2>t3>t2.5>r14 gear on classic for mage. But now previous gear from a different patch has no value thus making your effort that you had spent, go to waste unless you are a collector.

Bottom line is if you are aiming for the RPG experience then it would be difficult to achieve here since you cant aim for anything at the moment, its random. You either get it or not.

PVP competition is heavily based if you have friends or not, since the game has no option for solo queue and etc. For PVE, they have LFR but its not of a competitive nature and would not deliver that experience that a player would desire

In general I think its always a good idea to ignore angry old anythings.
To me it always feels like those dogs that come at the fence to bark as you walk down the street.

Regarding Wow keep in mind some of those angry old players are beating the “Wow is dead” drum for more than 12 years.

Have fun if you decide to join in. If not, have fun aswell
