There once was a half-human quarter-draenei quarter-orc mage shaman paladin Guardian of Tirisfal in the official WoW comics. It was ridiculous. So ridiculous that even Blizzard understood that it would be a bad idea to introduce him into the game.
Just now I thought about it… and found that it wouldn’t get more than a tired shrug from me if they introduced him now. After planets became titan eggs, we got attacked by time-traveling dieselpunk orcs from another dimension, we defeated old gods as well as the Legion at the hearts of their power by hitting them really hard, our planet got stabbed by a ridiculously large sword and we are going to the afterlife to… hunt down Sylvanas Windrunner… well, Med’an doesn’t seem that funny anymore.
If they reintroduced him now I would actually seriously consider if he, as the mongrel abomination that he is, might not be a good neutral pov character that Alliance and Horde can be equally annoyed by.
I certainly prefer Me’dan being the neutral character to taking old characters and dipping them in clown make-up, like they did with Khadgar, Magni and soon possibly Bolvar.
Why for a moment, i got the feeling that Me’dan writer is angry at the bad reviews the comic got, and he is ruining WoW story right now as a revenge…
Nah… that’s pretty ridiculous feeling
The guardians seem powerless when compared to mages like Azshara , or warlocks like Kil’jaeden or titans, or old gods or Elune or Naaru. I agree with you, he’s not that big of a thing really.
I’d say Azshara could easily kill or seal the Avatar of Sargeras. I mean, it is implied Kil’jaeden is stronger than it and Azshara was at his level 10 thousand years ago so…
Not really. A Knaak-book from 2005 that didn’t feature Kil’jaeden at all gave us Mannoroth’s impression that no one but Archimonde and his master would be able to best her. That’s… really, nothing in a clear base of comparison to Kil’Jaeden (that was even before the Eredar-Draenei retcon, wasn’t it? It was before Rise of the Horde, so I’m not sure if Kil’Jaeden even was a big name back then…). If we take the source as relevant at all, she was stronger than Mannoroth and presumably weaker than Archimonde at the time, and that’s it. And we have seen Mannoroth fall to an angry orc with an axe twice now. Here the relevant context, and I’m quite sure that this is the only context on that:
Is Cho’Gall really the writing standard we aspire to?
Dark magics in WoW, as in many other systems, were always a relatively quick and easy path. The bad guys straight up offer power for free, with the little caveat that it will turn you into one kind of maniac or the other, sooner rather than later. So yeah, I don’t really count usage of Fel and Void as personal achievements. Resisting them might be another matter, but Co’Gall isn’t really known for his leftover sanity.
It is a problem when you don’t really study for years to get the power, but get chosen one status from the start. To have that once is very questionable and a potential sign of a Mary Sue, to have it thrice is just ludicrous.
Kel"Thuzad - arch(?)mage and archlich.
Illidan master of arcane and fel (also martial combat).
Xavius - master of arcane, void and at least some fel.
Some power can be achieved by dark entities giving you power, but mastering them takes great skill just as any other.
Medan was a bad character, sure, multi-classing is just not one of the bad traits. He is about as good as Calia.
