Jaina's Mother...Who?

I must admit, playing the Alliance Pre-Shadowlands storyline. It was nice to see Jaina again and the progression of her character ever since she changed forever after the novel ‘Tides of War.’

But when seeing Jaina’s mother for the first time, I suddenly realised that I never in my personal knowledge when reading the novels and seeing the cutscenes in Warcraft 3 and WoW…when the hell was Katherine Proudmoore a thing?
I honestly thought Katherine was dead long before since all I ever heard was Jaina’s father during the course of Jaina’s life.
I must’ve either missed a small detail or if it was obvious, but if you asked my opinion on Katherine Proudmoore I would’ve answered “Who?”

I am curious why Katherine’s been hiding away since Warcraft 3 and I never recalled her being mentioned.

Lore reason: She was on Kul’Tiras the whole time and we’ve only ever visited it in BfA.

Real reason: The character wasn’t important at all and even tho it existed before, they basically created her for BfA & Jaina’s storyline on Kul’Tiras.

There are countless characters like this, since a lot of major lore characters must have parents and maybe siblings that haven’t been in the game yet and Blizzard can create those whenever they need another plot device.

Since BfA? I skipped that entirely

Yes she was a “major” character in the Kul’Tiras storyline (Tirigarde Sound)

As Anouk said, the character of Kathrine Proudmoore was essentially entirely made up for BFA. There was no real mentioning of her before, just like most of Kul Tiras in general wasnt really fleshed out besides 2 or 3 parapraphs here and there. You interact with Kathrine during the Tiragarde Sound Questline and even more in the Jaina Reunification Arc that takes place after you finish all 3 Kul Tiras zones and culminates in the Quest that sends you inside the Siege of Boralus dungeon.

Fun fact: Queen Talanji was freshly made up in the very same manner as Kathrine. We heard of Rastakhan since Zul Gurub in classic, yet Talanji was first mentioned in this current expansion.

Why would she be relevant before BfA, the expansion where we literally go to Kul Tiras? The last time Kul Tiras was relevant before BfA was in WC3, and that was a in military expedition to Kalimdor led by Daelin… why would Katherine follow her husband to war, when she is clearly not a warrior or a tactician?

Just because we never saw her before doesn’t mean she died. Why would you even think that?

Well to be fair think of the mothers of many major migures.
Arthas
Anduin
Kel’thelas
we know these peoples farthers but next to nothing about their mothers and sure anduins is mentioned a bit but not massivly so the first instint of little to no mentino of them would imply they are dead.
