Joining a guild as a warband/account

So, with all these warband changes unifying your account is there or will a feature come to join a guild with your warband as a whole rather than per character?

Personally I can not see why you would want to be in different guilds with different characters but having the option for either would be nice such as it is for the friend list and communities.

With the added ease of managing alts now having to join/leave a guild for each one just seem like an hassle for everyone involved.

P.S. It would also make for a tidier members list and easier to see how many members you actually have. (for those larger guilds)

I don’t want to be in one guild with all my characters. So I’d rather that wasn’t standard.

I join a raiding guild on my main and the rest (currently 53 charactgers) are in my own guild for convenience.

Some players will join different guilds for different content or multiple raid teams etc.

Guilds currently have membership caps, I doubt they’d want 65 chars per person in their guild filling it up.

I think this could be better for Communities. Their limits are rather annoying.
Although it could make for a rather crowded roster list, perhaps it should only show Online members or something…

I get that and it does not have to be the standard but having the option to invite an account for those who would want it I can only see as a benefit.

And although I have not used the community function myself to me that seems like that is the intended use for having a collection of people to do a specific content.

As for the membership cap would not 1 account take less space than 65 alts?
Your friend list has a cap and I doubt that takes into account for every character you have across all your battle.net games.

But sure I do not know how the guild system is implemented and it might need a rework for this to work.

Guilds and one version of communities is character based. The other version is a bnet group.

With the current restrictions and systems in the game this wouldn’t work.

No ! Absolutely not !

In wow there is no such thing as ā€˜options’ or ā€˜choice’. There is only ā€œthe correct wayā€ to play the game.
I do not want it to become a standard for guild leaders to demand players to use their warband as their guild bank or to contribute to the guild in a way i dont want them to.

My alts are not public servants.

That should be done.
I don’t want even try to remember all alts of my guild members. I also have 3 chars in the same guild but I am sure almost no one know that they all belongs to me. The reason why guild chat is dead, cuz people playing from different chars all the time and you just don’t know them all.

What would be an interesting idea would be for guilds to create ā€œAllegiancesā€ which would be like the Allied Races but for guild.

As an example, if you have one guild called Alpha and another called Beta, either of their guild leaders can nominate the other guild as one to have an ā€œAllegianceā€ with and then if Alpha needed extra people for a raid, they could send a message to Beta to ask for help. Then the people from Beta raid with Alpha but it would apply all the things like reputation and other stuff to their own guild (for example, Guild Edition stuff).

Now if a player in Beta was in a dungeon with some people from a guild called Gamma, then the guild leader of Beta can nominate the guild Gamma for an Allegiance. Now Beta would have TWO guilds they could do raids with in a more convenient way than having to ask for puggers.

My idea is that each guild could have up to twenty different active Allegiances at any time.

Disclaimer: No existing guilds were used intentionally as examples in this post.

I think the OPs idea is good as an option. Having to use addons like Guild Roster Manager to keep track of people’s alts, and having to get re-invited on alts, is kind of annoying.

People are freaking out in this thread because they think the OP suggested that this should be the only way to join a guild, which he didn’t.

To people claiming it can’t be done: unless you’re a software engineer on the WoW team, you’re not qualified to make that statement.

Really doubt Blizzard would ever do that, a lot of people join different guilds for their different characters.

Nah, they can definitely work around it since ā€œ/ginfoā€ tells you how many player accounts are in the guild.

Yeah, that’s how guilds work, they are limited by characters.

I’m not saying it could never be changed, although I personally would find this very undesirable, guilds do not work like battle net groups.

Please stop pretending to be a WoW software engineer and dismissing other people’s suggestions.

Please stop pretending I’m not informing people how the current system works and if you had quoted me in full would have seen I even said:-

Equally I’m perfectly entitled to join in any discussion and express my opinion. Which in this case is that I would not want to be in a guild with all 65 characters.

When you’re in a new guild every other patch or so (like some people cough cough) it does seem rather silly to join a guild with your entire warband. However, for most people this seems like a nice option to have. Or something like making one of your characters the default and with a simple click your other warband characters could also be in the same guild.

It’s amazing that people would move guilds or that guilds disband etc, it’s even more incredible that you take such a great interest in what I do personally. I don’t really know how to thank such a loyal fan for paying such great attention to every little thing I do. I would find it exhausting to fangirl over someone else in this way.

I know plenty of people who do not want to be in a guild with all their characters. Nor would they want to lose their guild banks that a huge portion of the playerbase currently utilise. Many of us are long term players.

At this point its just become funny to notice :joy: You could put your own guild as the default and every new character would be in that one and you’d be free to hop around with your main.

Having it be a simple option to click would be handy is all I’m saying. Theres no downside to it. But you do you, long term player.

Totally don’t sound like a stalker, honest. Not at all.

If you could retract your claws for an actual discussion that would be great.

I’m just gonna stick to the subject matter now.

I didn’t go off-topic at all. You assumed I was talking about you and got all defensive…

But when the shoe fits I can see why that would be.

Community feature still isn’t what it should -or rather could be. Guilds are more beneficial to a character for now.

I’m curious about this one.

How do you think a guild would try to utilise your alts?
