In the newly released Journey trailer for WotLK classic (made by Hurricane, paid for by Blizzard) they used WoD models for everything except gnomes. The trailer is absolutely amazing as anything else made by Hurriane is. I honestly envy this guy’s editing skills. Blizzard should hire him permanently.
But yes, Blizzard decided to comission him to use the WoD and Legion models instead of the WotLK models because they know that this will attract more attention from new players. And this brings me to the point. With so many changes done to WotLK classic, there is 0 excuse to not include the updated models and let players choose between them or the old ones just like back in the days before Blizzard removed the option.
Link to the trailer:
Let players decide what models they want to play with. It won’t harm anyone. It’s a bit extra work for the devs but they were already able to develop that option and it was already in the game.
@ Djansoul I got your poor attempt at sarcasm and irony but no, that would be a lore change as some of the structures in the new Dalaran (Legion) were not present during the WotLK timeline. In the center we have the Dedication of Honor statue and the Frostmourne’s hilt - something liked to the lore of WotLK. The Runeweaver Square was repurposed by the Kirin Tor only after Dalaran moved.
They can just put the new textures on the old dalaran
The new dalaran is really beautiful i liked it a lot, like Dragonflight graphics it’s like a Wotlk 2.0
what a sad takeaway from an amazing video made by a content creator, it just makes me sad that you would see that and this is what you would focus on. hope things get better
The video is indeed amazing. Hurricane did a great job as always. But Blizzard have no right to exploit his work to gain more subs while false advertising at the same time. If this was a vid on Hurricane’s own channel it would have been absolutely fine. But it’s not! It’s yet another money pull on the back of an amazing content creator.
That’s great for you! Amazing actually! And you should be able to play with them! Just like players who like the new models should be able to play with them. There was an option to select which models you want but Blizzard removed it.
New models have “the same face” problem, especially human females and night elven females. Also Nigh Elven males walking animation on new models is steaming garbage even after initial fix in WoD when they got rid of nervious jumping walking. Original NE male just have a gigachad walk.
However not all new models are that bad. Tauren males got a bit more silly, but a very detailed emotion animation for their face expressions, especially Tauren females who got rid of the bad scaling of low res textures. Dwarves are better as well, not made from half body textures mirrored, making em symmetrical and dull, you can say that new models helps creating more than one combination of a pretty dwarven female as well.
My biggest grind with the ‘‘new models’’ comparred to the old is that all the new models looks like they belong in a Disney/Pixar movie rather than the Warcraft universe, they were made to look and feel more whimsical, and the animations aren’t ‘‘bad’’ from an animation perspective, but the choices of animations that Blizzard did on the new models makes them a huge turn off comparred to the original, which feels more like they belong in a Warcraft fantasy universe, and not a Disney movie. The characters feels too ‘‘bouncy’’ and ‘‘jumpy’’, especially Dwarf and Night Elf, which are some of my favourite models in the original, but comes close to my LEAST favourite in the new models.
