Jump from 1080p to 1440p?

Hello,
looking for girlfrie… wait no, not that.
Looking for people that have upgraded from 1080p to 1440p.
I’m myself playing on 1080p 24".
And so I wonder, is it worth it to jump to 1440p 27"?
Maybe just wait it out for 4k to become more… mainstream?

P.s. playing on 60hz monitor now, so I will upgrade to either 1440p or another 1080p, just with 144+ hz.
Price difference is more or less 2x. But main problem is, that with 1440p I’d have to buy higher class GPU as well, where with 1080p I could cheap-out a little. (Let’s say 3060 vs 3070)

I do 1440p, the higher the resolution, the more work is done by the GPU than the CPU.

If you’re still on 720, 1080 then more work is being done by the CPU than the GPU. Most GPU’s like higher resolutions these days.

It is becoming interesting though as I was going to go for a RTX3000 series card but now on hearing the news on the new AMD 6000 series graphic cards and how they will work best linked to a Ryzen 5000 cpu. Want to see how that goes.

I would wait, as the AMD 6000 series GPU has same performance but lower power consumption. Also Freesync monitors are cheaper than G-Sync ones. Find out with tests on the new AMD RNA2 cards end of November.

Going from 60 to 144hz is the real killer upgrade.
The higher resolution is nice too, but not as much as the high refreshrates.

agree.

is it worth it to jump to 1440p though? absolutely. it’s a lot nicer than 1080p. larger screen is lovely as well. consider ultrawide too, super nice, but then it gets more expensive again.

I’m on ultrawide (3440x1440) and for WoW it’s super awesome due to extra FOV.

I used to play at 1080p (dunno what refresh rate) with a 1050ti & a Philips 24" monitor; I now play 1440p/144 Hz with a Vega56 & a 32" curved AOC monitor… MUCH better experience.

Personally, I’m not convinced that a Vega card is that optimal for gaming, but I’ve not hade ther card a year yet, so can’t justifiy anything else.
