IT WAS LITERALLY ADDED HALFWAY THROUGH WOTLK.
Maybe go play on private servers without RDF, oh wait, THOSE DIE.
What you mean they let u out? Itâs still paid transfer only what I see.
For a week and a half they let us transfer to Hydraxian Waterlords which had transfers to Razorgore which had transfers virtually everywhere else.
This makes you anonymous how?
You donât understand how being a small fish in a large pond makes you anonymous compared to a medium fish in a medium pond?
I donât understand how a server population of 5k, 10k or 20k equals a population of 100k.
Vanilla servers were never ever those amounts of players though.
The very high end estimate is 3.5k and that seems unlikely.
Compared to modern servers with multiple layers?
As the blue post said, a medium server now has more characters than the most crowded back in 2006.
Nevermind what high and full entail from that point onwards.
So you mean at 3,5k pop there is a breakpoint where every player joining after that become anonymous?
Good lord, youâre trying really hard to make some point stick.
Okay.
You and I we play on the same server (assuming you still play on Earthshaker).
Our literal only interaction forever will be these forums.
It just is how it is. No one outside our respective guilds give a hoot who we are.
What about guild names, are they as anonymous on a single realm as among the entire EU block of servers?
Are guilds queueing up for 5 mans?
Is the guild tag removed in RDF groups?
So thatâs a no.
Then I donât see the tangent youâre getting at here, you might as well just cut to the chase instead of this stupid round-a-bout nonsense.
That said, my old Ashbringer guild name is present on Earthshaker as well, so it doesnât mean quite as much as you think it does.
As others have said before. Cross-realm is terrible because of the anonymity. I think current group finder tool is waaaay better than rdf. RDF also makes the world empty as people just sit in major cities and spam-queue and get ported to dungeon instead.
You mean like people are doing now and then flying with 280% speed to the dungeon?
Gosh, I guess that flight really makes the world alive.
Iâm talking about the experience for people in the first 60 levels when thereâs no flying. No need to get snarky.
Yes there is, cause itâs going to go back to the way it was.
Absolutely no one is going to do low level instances once WotLK actually releases, Joyous Journeys is why theyâre being done right now.
Sure, good talk.
I do think there is a point when the population growth begins to hamper/diminish the sense of community. Especially in World of Warcraft since the mega-servers can only function due to layering. I donât know what the breaking point is, perhaps it is not 10k or 20k, but I believe a server with a 5k population will have a stronger sense of community than a server with 10k. The difference in âfeelâ would be way more noticable if you were to compare those two sample sizes than if you were to compare a server with 20k as opposed to a server with 30k.
But this is just guesswork on my part, Iâve never actually played on a mega-server.
Disclaimer: I am not advocating for the inclusion of the RDF. Good riddance, I say, but from my point of view the mega-servers themselves seem almost as bad as cross-server sharding.
