Hi all, im a returned player after 12 years offline (played tbc+wotlk), and restarted playing 2 months ago or so.
Im not in a rush, in fact im doing Loremaster since 12y ago I completely skipped the lore, didnt even read quest log text.
I been tanking with my dk, already have setup my ui to help (im developer and love setup as addons and optimize ui), and questing Loremaster and tanking dungeons a lot and till now getting gear only from dungeons drops.
But as i just dinged 90, and getting closer to 120 im starting to wondering if theres some basic gearing up that i might be missing? i don’t care to rush… in fact i have zero difficulties tanking and no dps problems while questing for Loremaster…
but still would like to satisfy my curiosity for “must know-be aware” of other sources to get gear.
I learned there’s some gear called Heirloom that we buy in some npc somewhere with gold, and which can be also upgraded to 3 levels… but as new player im still very poor lol…
Thanks for suggesting link to a nice nexr steps fir gearing without suffering too much.
Probably potentially l advice - im imagining - will be to do what i done in every other mmo i played in past 12 years, which is simply not to care about gear till my char level to max level, till there dungeons/instances gear drops normally are more than enough… shall this apply in wow i guess? so just worry with gear only when i ding 120?
And about pve, i been doing dungeons normal mide and some heroic, and i think at some point there will be a 3rd difficulty level named mythic right? so if i continue leveling tanking in dungeons it shall be enough the drops? thx.
First of all welcome back to the world of addiction.
In terms of gear it definitely is the answer you were expecting. Leveling through quests should be enjoyed all the way to 120 and gearing occurs as a natural process throughout it as long as you are following the relevant quest storylines which it sounds like you are doing.
So in short, no. Gearing doesn’t matter until you reach max level because the next expansions gear and max level gear will always give your character a large power jump even if it the new gear is just quest greens. At max level you will be able to get to grips with the “gear grind” with all the latest content giving you the best gear available at the time. But until then gear is really irrelevant.
Thanks Ghimrizz for the overview I just wonder you mentioned couple of time “keystones” ? its this like a currency for high tier gear ? (fyi I didnt googled before answering )
Well in Legion we got a new difficulty level called mythic keystones. They are basicly the mythic dungeon but at a higher difficulty aswell as added elements/affixes. These dungeons also have a timer, so you get a bit of extra loot for beating it and the keystone upgrades 1-3 levels depending on time remaining.
For example this week we got:
Mythic +2, Tyrranical - Boss dmg and hp is increased
Mythic +4-6, Bolstering - Dead enemies buff remaining alive enemies with more damage and health.
Mythic+ 7-9, Grievous - Damage taken below 90% cause a player to bleed for a % of their max hp, stacks up to 5 times untill their fully healed.
Mythic+ 10, Infested - some enemies are infested with a spawn of G’huun which buffs them. Upon death two minions spawn and try to infest other enemies.
These affixes stack so a +10 keystone will be; Tyrannical, bolstering, grievous and infested. Also the gear which drops at the end of the dungeon increase up to 370 at +10. You also get a loot chest to pick up at server reset with a random reward withs caling ilvl based upon the highest keystone(+10 is the current limit).
I also forgot to mention that at 325 your also able to do LFR(Looking for raid) which is a very scaled down raid with ilvl 340 drops. At 325 the warfronts also open up which give a 370 item first time you clear it and 340 items every time after that(it’s not a weekly reset more like every 3rd week). There’s also a world boss up that you can PUG for easy 355 ilvl drops and if it’s arathi control week you can also do a world boss in there for some 370 pieces.
If you plan to tank whole 120, I acctually have a tip for you:
Just do hc dungeons when call to arms; tank show up. It’s a bit rude perhaps but those extra 900 gold per run will help finance any extra gear buys for example a 325 weapon or the tanking darkmoon card trinket(for example). At the very least thats what i did to afford buying my weapon+shield as a paladin since weapon drops are rather bothersome to get hold of in BfA. It will also give you some time to catch up on the questing, since both the war campaign and the faction campaigns are required to enter the final dungeons.
Thanks so much, alread merged your tips together with Grimrizz list in my google spreasheet
I only didnt understood what you mean with “Just do hc dungeons when call to arms; tank show up” ? I remember hc=heroic but dunno about call to arms …
Cheers,
Buda
PS I got a plan!! well tbh… and maybe this should be another thread, i been having hard time pugging as tank, enjoying tactics even if things are easy, since im trying to get better at tanking with my dk blood and looking for tactics hints etc… but every once and while theres those rushy players keep pulling and jumpng, and fire harsh language asap i say plz let me do the pulls etc… i can imagine how old are they tho but whats the solution ? I would not mind paying the double of sub monthly if I could control more who LFG tries to group with me… would love yes/no options like 1) limit player age Y/N 2) limit player language (im sure easy for Blizzard to track who uses harsh language and use then in the benefict of social filter etc… but… probably i will open another thread in future weeks, as for now still have a lot to learn at lv90 and iLevel 107 lol
If ya have any willing friends, you can ask them to boost you through old raids like Siege of Orgrimmar, perhaps they are running it for transmoggs, normally they are soloable at 110+
Gearing isn’t important until 120, as someone said, but if you want some extra numbers it’s an option.
Well call to arms are basicly the system blizzard put in to make under represented roles be more eager to queue up in the group tool. You will sometimes(at least on 120) see a role symbol turn into a gold frame. On my server Tanks are most common but sometimes healers show up, at a regular interval - mostly because tank/healer roles lately are related to being abused.
Call to arms give you extra rewards on completing a dungeon trought the LFG tool. I think it’s about 150 Artifact power(artifacts are the new gimmick introduced in Legion, i don’t want to spoil it) and a Bag of treasures, the bag usually have about 900 gold and a bunch of runes(stat buff items).
When it comes to PuG’s in general people are quite obnoxious. Easiest way to avoid being grouped with them are a constant use of the ignore feature, people on the ignore list will never be grouped up with you again in the LFG tool. It’s rather lame, but it’s the only means we got. The wow community have really gone sour since the introduction of cross realm matchmaking etc. when people turn “anonymous” they tend to act like asses on any source of media. Back when we had server reputations to uphold we didn’t really see much of this because people didn’t want to get shunned and avoided.
Yes been using ignore and will leave group if little one insists and/or if no other player steps in to support.
Will create a guild after hit max and understand next steps myself, i been learning dungeons (i love pve and tactics even if they not needed) and will focus in inviting new players.
Now… just got stuck in another situation, im level 91 and entered the Black Portal and doing the initial quests in Draenor and just noticed Dungeon Finder doesn’t have 1 single dungeon i can queue … there’s a tooltip saying myitem level is 110 and i need to have at least iLevel 117… so as someone on this thread suggested, i just did my 1st pvp and received a nice iLevel item (1st time only i think we get this loot)… but got the impression that maybe i shall do some more PvP games (as DK i had lots of fun even without understanding what was it all about, i just kept supporting and killing - found hard for ppl to kill me - so fun fun …
soo i guess there must exist some PvP currency im getting that i can exchange with PvP gear ? And probably i’m assuming based on that 1st pvp gear high iLevel i got that probably shall be able to exchange whatever called pvp currency with gear that allow me to get iLevel 117 so i can be able to finally return to tank dungeons again ?
Where can I see how much Marks of Honor I have ? The character window > tab Currency only shows “Timewarped Badge”, “Spirit Shared” and “Garrison Resources”… and in my inventory (adibags) i can see gold in addition… but dunno where pvp currency is displayed ?
