Hagrid asideâ
Doesnât a lot of the actors who played bad guys in the Harry Potter films side with Joke Rowling?
Theyâre older on average, whereas main cast of Harry & his classmates were played by more socially conscious, younger people.
your bang on the money, I know my cynicism that leads to why i think its wrong for a person who spent their life as a man to want to get into mma against cis women is triggering people here, but it comes from no hatred or desire to -oppress- like people make out, I do not hate trans people nor do I wish to oppress, I dont consider myself a transphobe, I just disagree on one particular thought process about a very very niche thing so yes I get madly defensive and hostile when people try put me in the same catagory as people who actually hate trans people or wish to mock/make jokes about them, we can disagree on one particular career choice on something and the decision that leads to that, it doesnt mean I hate your existence and desire you to identify as something your not, as an actual transphobe would.
I vaguely remember Tom Felton going off on one too.
Hopefully they just caught him on a bad day, and he said some stuff he didnât truly believe in because he Feltoff.
Maybe, but I am pretty sure (and people are free to correct me if i am wrong) he did the whole; âi stan for Joke Rowlingâ bit.
EDIT: or rather (when Iâm not being as harsh) âI stand with JK Rowlingâ
âŚyou did not.
My man, my brother in Christ, at this point this isnât ignorance. Itâs outright sheer malice. They didnât just all of the sudden want to get into MMA, both of these women were actively interested / active in several sports throughout their entire life; MMA included. They fight women because they are women and are not allowed by the rules of MMA to fight anyone else.
You do not have to hate trans people to do be a transphobe, just like how your average racist isnât a tattooed up skinhead shouting racial slurs in the streets. Your insistence on referring to these two women as biological men is very transphobic, your belief they just want to batter women is very transphobic.
Iâve not been here for the last 300 posts, what did I miss?
This in ten.
Itâs a very similar type of thinking to several relatives of mine. Said relatives donât consciously hate trans people, they believe in the right to self-identity even if they donât understand it, and they donât believe in discrimination against transfemme people.
But, at the same time, they âfeelâ that they shouldnât be allowed into womenâs changing rooms because it would be âuncomfortableâ for cis women to have to share that space with a biological man. Theyâre not interested in abuse statistics, theyâre not interested in the notion that most pre-op trans women wouldnât be comfortable in that space either (due to dysphoria or prejudice).
Theyâve been fed a narrative about the danger that âmen pretending to be womenâ can pose, so even if theyâre not actively and aggressively hateful, they still retain these really harmful viewpoints that are really just uninformed discrimination.
They also feel that transfemme sexual abusers should not be allowed into womenâs prisons. They didnât know where they should be sent and were absolutely stumped when I asked, âalright then what about cis lesbian abusers?â
Well-meaning bigotry remains bigotry and it still needs to be pushed back against, because itâs just as problematic as the intentional stuff.
That being said, accusing trans women of wanting to join contact sports to âbeat women bloodyâ goes beyond the pale of being well-meaning. It is an explicit and aggressive view to espouse.
an unfortunate consequence of the time a lot of our relatives (or in some cases even ourselves) grew up in where slander of these issues was the norm. ive relatives myself that try their hardest to be accepting of a more modern and tolerant society but they then immediately let that down with a comment like what you yourself said there. âMen pretending to be women.â or as another example âMarriage should remain between man and woman, give theirs a diffrent name or something.â or the classic âSoon no one will know what they want to be.â
sig there has once again proven what i said last night about the irish mentality of trans-in-sports. mma especially. grow up and join the 21st century not the 19th
Yep â and a large part of it comes from a serious lack of education on the topic. During my teen years, the only context in which I knew of trans people at all was in the context of âThai ladyboysâ, which is appalling in hindsight, that my only education was a gross joke which was very much not the foundation of a respectful perspective. If Iâd been able to receive a proper education on the matter, it might have taken me rather less time to understand my own, personal feelings. I missed a lot of time which could have been spent exploring myself.
I should also have specified pre-op or non-op in my last post, since trans people absolutely do not need to have bottom or top surgery, or even to have HRT at all in order to be trans. Identity is identity, regardless of exterior. Identity certainly isnât decided by the contentâs of a personâs pants.
Unless those pants are flared jeans. Their identity then is âdisasterâ.
Never in ten characters!! So long as I breathe itâll still be 1890 somewhere in the world !
i will accept everyone and anyone.
however i will never accept fashion disasters. my senses cannot handle it.
im again with you there though on the lack of education. speaking with friends in for example, finland, the comparrison between our educations on matters of sex ed, gender etc are worlds apart. Even between the UK and Ireland, my education on even the notion of trans people was non-existant. they just did not exist in the eyes of the education boards. classes that should have assisted young people in better understanding themselves amounted too âHeres a condom, heres how you wrap it on, dont tear it, dont rape girls, religious obligation to mention gay is sin. Hereâs a slide from the 1950s on how god will make your junk fall off.â
everything i know on these topics has been self-taught and im ashamed to say because of how little the issues were dealt with in this country, some of it is more recent than it should have been. no ones perfect bros but everyones capable of not being intolerant. it isnt hard.
i will banish you back to poldark so help me
Pfft, as if Iâd need flared jeans to identify as a disaster.
Apparently Iâve run out of likes for the second ever time, so please just appreciate the positives vibes I am sending your way, both of you.
Oof; thatâs a bit before my time but if you could hurl me towards Downton Abbey Iâd be much appreciative
Iâll send you to Sharpe and youâll thank me for it.
