If Blizzard, mindful of its millions of loyal fans, and wanting to celebrate the game’s anniversary, decided to give everyone a free QOL gift. Not a grind, not an expensive mount. Just a gift and a thank you for playing.
Imagine how long term players would be feeling to have been given the brutosaur for their support of the game. Imagine how they would have told their friends of Blizzard’s generosity. The PR would have been worth a lot. Instead, even if you’ve bought the mount (and good luck and I hope you enjoy it), you’ve got to agree it was a pretty greedy move.
Not at all. I said it’s a wasted opportunity for good PR and a cash grab. I’m rich in RL so I buy what pleases me. I can both simultaneously think that Blizzard made a mistake and alienated people here while also think that it’s something I might enjoy. It’s called nuanced thinking. Try it - you might like it.
We’ve received stuff in the past. I remember some pets, mounts, tabards, etc. Those are just those things that lie in the bag, or are added to your collection, you don’t use them so you forget about them. Then eventually you do decide to use some of it, but forgot how you received it in the first place.
The Brutosaur mount? It’d be “oh cool” quickly followed by “anyways”.
Don’t even think players are that grateful for gifts. They really are not, not in the long term…
But they do? If you are a long time sub’er you get new mounts and pets “for free”… You get mounts from anniversary each time for very simple tasks… Trading Post rewards you with different things just for playing the game… Twitch drops has given multiple old TCG mounts… MoP Remix gave what… 30+ mounts? + all the tmog…
They give SO many things… But as is, with all these collectables, people always complain when it’s a grind or paid cosmetic, but if it’s given for free no one talks about it, heck no one even cares, it just collect dust in the collection because it’s not “Cool” or “Prestigious enough”…
How many people do you see riding around the Obsidian Worldbreaker? how many people talk about having been given Sha of Anger mount?
Look at the event… How many people are thanking Blizzard for the updated T2 gear? People are complaining that they won’t be able to get them all in the first week
They can’t just give the bruto mount… she’s so goldy, even her parasols are made of gold !
All that gold, mining, smelting and pixelating, Blizz/Microsoft need to make a return on investment
What a great idea. I’m rich too so what the hell. I’m going to buy a 2nd one and leave it in my mailbox as I won’t be able to use it again. Then I can take lots of screenshots to post here that will show my wilful disregard for my revenue and stir up all the natives.
