I think this is the best description right now. If you have terrible RNG your entire run could simply end because you cannot beat the boss, and with that you’ll have essentially wasted all this time in Torghast (and depending on your class and gear that could be quite some time).
Although I do say that missing out on some ash isn’t all that terrible. You can only equip one legendary anyway and I currently wouldn’t craft it right away considering that balancing will happen when the raid releases.
My experience was a bit strange, I was doing both layer 3 on Fury warrior and the floors were absolutely no issue but the final bosses where very different. Now it is great that the bosses are not all the same. I haved 3 layer 3 bosses as I had to do Upper reaches twice.
Forges boss was sort of challanging but went down then on my first run in reaches (the area with the increase to physical damage) the final boss was one that stacked a bleed, which is obviously a physical dot. I did not have amazing powers in that run but I certainly did not have many bad ones either it felt pretty average but that boss was just a hard wall as it ends up being a dps race for classes that can not selfsustain properly. Eventually the bleed just killed me with the boss at 10%.
Second attempt I got a boss that did purely magic damage and it just rolled over without a single issue, granted my powers were a bit stronger but the difference was quite staggering.
points are:
1 the bosses should be a bit closer together variance is good but if you can roll 1 to 10 the gap is a bit much 1-6 is enough.
2 those who fail a run just try again it is very possible that you just had bad luck and until then just reroll it is certainly doable.
150 DH, lvl 2 on the damn thing. Destroyed everything up to the last boss, could not kill the last boss no matter what I did. Even evading all his special moves. I just can’t kill him fast enough with the build I had.
I soloed upper reaches layer 3 boss (Patrician Cromwell) as rogue that has no self healing except crimson vial which lasts 3-4 seconds. It was literally my last attempt with only 1 death left. It was so epic and fun. It felt like I overcame a difficult challenge.
What I did was to interrupt, use cc and sometimes kite. You also need to make the right decisions when choosing anima power. I also collected lots of phantasma and bought all the upgrades from the vendor including the 2 orbs which gives u a random anima power.
Torghast has been out for barely a week and u already cry and ask for nerf. Just git gud, learn from your mistakes, and stop being a moaning child.
I’ve not struggled with it on any of my classes. Few wipes here and there, but that’s normal when you’re experimenting and learning, and that’s what an RPG is about.
If you can’t overcome this challenge, then you’re not ready to progress. It’s not all about loot. It’s about the way you approach the game mechanically and creatively.
Nerfcalling just ruins the experience for those of us who are enjoying the content.
Edit: Just adding to this. I hate time gated content in-general and I don’t think this should be needed for general progression. At least remove the time gating and let people farm it as much as they want, because then they also have more incentive to actually play through it more and learn it thoroughly.
Honestly, this is Blizzard’s fault for making legendary items for the last few expansions so accessible, especially when they heighten the strengths of your class in a way that’s far superior to any other piece of gear.
You can’t give a puppy treats every day and then just stop giving it treats because it can’t jump high enough.
Because it’s an (mmo)rpg; gearing up is a major pillar of such a game and basically everyone enjoys it. And getting legendary gear IS fun. A lot of fun.
