Have seen no announcements or anything, while the event is on. Annoying to waste time fishing if there has been a winner already.

Had the same on Firemaw - I haven’t seen the yells, so had spy in the city, to tell me. She did, I ported back - saw NPC already in “sorry dude” and then a minute later another winner.
But that’s since TBC - initially, I thought pirates killed the NPC to respawn it, but it just resets. I thought it’s just so everybody could farm the gear 
You can fish Terrorfish from Dragonblight by casting inside Wintergrasp, even when the event is on (and you would otherwise be teleported away, preventing you from doing daily).
Yes and … that makes winning the fishing contest just a question of being there … again. No achievement in it.
So why not multiple winners of the Kalu’ak fishing too is what I meant.
The inaudible announcements … well this just show us how much Blizz cares for professions …
