Greetings!
I have a question regarding external software usage for a specific use-case and its acceptance by Blizzard.
As far as I am aware, the rule-of-thumb seems to be “one key = one action” or “whatever is possible with in-game macros”. My goal is to have keyboard macros that just keep mashing down the same key as long as I am holding down the key. The question is, if this is allowed. It might fit into “one key = one action”, but not really.
The reason is, that manual button mashing is just terrible for my fingers. If I do it for a while, it will hurt. My job mainly involves typing on a keyboard, my hands are already stressed and start hurting quite fast upon button mashing.
Of course I understand that Blizzard cannot officially bless any third-party program, so the question is only in regards to Blizzard’s stance on the matter.
Thanks!
My opinion on the matter is it’s fine as long as you don’t intend to get any unfair advantage from it. So make sure the input repeat is not something that isn’t humanly possible, just set it to something like 1 or 2 repetitions per second.
I don’t know if blizzard will answer this, but I explained why I think it’s fine.
That probably runs foul of one key = one action rule because in WoW or macros there is no option for “do action(s) while holding key”.
Depending on what you are doing you might be able to bind the action bar to a mouse wheel up and/or down. I used this to flip fortune cards while watching stream on the other screen.
It is completely against the rules, one button press=one action not one button press=100 actions.
If you use it you will get an automation ban.
False. You don’t get automatically banned for doing it at least for -now-.
Still, I don’t know what Blizzard’s stand is about it, as long as you are required to keep pressing it down and it doesn’t toggle on after key release, which would make it fully automated and not requiring player action after that. By having it on toggle it would make it fully automated, being able to tag spawning mobs even if you weren’t on computer, but by requiring you to have it pressed down it at least requires constant human interaction. Somewhat different cases which may have different views on it by blizzard.
I never said you get an automatic ban, I said an automation ban, please learn the difference.
You can set wow to do the action on the press or release. Blizzards stand is obvious, multiple actions on one keypress using external software is against the rules.
As an example, one keypress, let’s say the number 7 key, should do one action or set off an internal Warcraft macro. The OP wants it to go 7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7,7 etc until they release it which is obviously automation.
Blizzard will never say if something is ok … however, unless I’ve missed it, you’re not doing anything else at the same time. Also from your post, it’s an accessibility issue for you.
I honestly have no idea if they will/can reply (I’m a player not an employee) but you could try making a ticket using https://eu.battle.net/support/en/help/product/wow/181/187/solution and explaining it as you have in the first post as that’s a pretty good description of your question. I would also stress that it’s an accessibility issue for you.
Basically they can either give you a little info that might help or or they’ll just quote one keypress, one action but you won’t know which until you ask.
This sounds illegal.
But luckily there is one thing you can do!
Use a controller!
Yes I said it! One of my irl friends used to use a controller because he does not have an index finger, and it works great, he even joined us in a mythic raid!
As suggested, I contacted customer support, but they just pointed me towards https://www.blizzard.com/en-us/legal/cd5930c0-2784-420c-a23d-1e0d6ff8599b/anti-cheating-agreement. I will post relevant information if more comes up.
