Kinda disappointed with phase 2

To start this off: I loved phase 1! I had so much fun leveling, doing dungeons, finding runes, crafting stuff, etc. It felt like the memories I had of classic WoW. So much exploration, traveling, and engaging with the world.

But now I hit 40 and excitedly moved out of Scarlet Monastery to catch up on all the questing, runes, crafting, dungeons, and pvp I missed out on just to find out there wasn’t much.

First of all my gear was mostly BFD, but not all, and there were very few upgrades to find in dungeons. There were not many dungeon quests to do either. I cleared out all of the Uldaman quests which was a lot of fun but then SM and RFD had very few to no quests. And half the Uldaman dungeon isn’t even dropping loot anyone can equip.

So I tried to work on my crafting. Got my mining up to 225 and engineering up to 240 and found out that you can’t smelt truesilver, a critical part of phase 2 crafting, and every warlock needs exactly one Soul Vessel ever for one quest one time.

The runes seem easier to get. In phase 1 there were many runes that required you to go all over the place and get all kinds of stuff to get a hold of them. In phase 2 there’s fewer runes and there’s only 1 that’s really any effort at all to get.

The STV PVP event is quite fun but in my first event I managed to get 7 silver coin, enough to get the 2 gear pieces I needed. Good for people who don’t like PVP much and personally I don’t like PVP enough to go back to STV just for the weird but kinda cool group PVP thing.

I could grind Arathi Basin and WSG reputation but I’d rather watch paint dry than see these unorganized Alliance players ignore all objectives game after game. I’m 0-5 on WSG and decided I wasn’t having any fun.

So at the end of the day I feel like I hit 40 and while I could still be questing it doesn’t feel like I’m questing for anything. I don’t need more money, I can’t get more of the one crafting material people actually need, I don’t need gear that isn’t from Gnomeregan.

I did a Gnomeregan run and it was really fun. Now I’m locked out for a week. So a week is how long my character will stay logged out I guess.

Maybe you should do other things in your life if you feel like you don’t have anything to do in the game. For me it seems you have rushed the content and now got nothing left to do.

I did the content at the same speed as phase 1 but ran out of stuff to do much faster than phase 1. I really don’t know what your point is other than to feel better about yourself for playing slower.

Ph2 is very content light, that’s for sure.

The PvP is what was supposed to carry phase 2. But the balance is so atrociously bad it’s borderlne unplayable.

I guess it’s fun if youre a shadow priest. but for me the dmg is too high across the board. the TTK is faster than in COD and I dont really enjoy fights with 0 outplay potential. Just whoever can get their instant cast off first. Pretty boring.

Gear is already grinded out. I had full pre-bis on the 3rd day of ph2 and I didnt even try. There just aint that much to ugprade for casters and the few pieces I needed were super easy to get since I can just craft them in tailoring.

Gnomer is fun though but a single little raid cant carry an entire mmo experience.

P2 has the same amount of content as p1, take off your rose tinted goggles it hasnt been that long.

i don’t agree, it has less content. People already have gear and gold they didn’t before; there is one grind people did last time gone. The stv event takes half the time to get rewards than ashen did, most already have what they want from it, and lets not mention the lag and layering issues. The weekly lockout means people only have a reason to play once a week. AB is awful in randoms on alliance, and the only way to get rep is by playing AB, putting people off. The world pvp is worse for alts, as level 40s are running through level 25 areas ganking lowbies while doing runes. The runes are quicker and easier to get than p1. the quest gold at 40 isnt as good as quest gold at 25, i made more money doing duskwood quests at 25 than most of what i’ve done at 40 ( dungeon quests badlands etc ).

I tried leveling up an alt to get a feel for how P2 feels if you don’t already have full BFD gear but I’m just feeling a bit burnt on the game right now. Maybe it’s just me who’s never been fond of creating alts, maybe it’s just other things going on in my life now than when P1 launched. Either way I don’t know how much of this phase I’ll manage to do. Which is a shame since Gnomeregan was always my absolute favorite dungeon in classic, with BRD coming in close second place and third Scarlet Monastery. I guess I really was just hoping to grind dungeons for days in search for sweet loot but that just isn’t necessary this phase.

I don’t know if I’m alone in feeling this but I accept that I may be. Either way I just wanted to put this out here. I love Season of Discovery though and I’ve had a great time with it. Just not this phase for as long as I was hoping it’d last.

Well phase 2 is just waiting room for phase 3 already

Careful, if you play more than 3 hours a week the gamer “dads” will come out in full force to let you know what a no-life degenerate you are and it’s your own fault for “rushing” the content.

I have not hit 40 yet but they probably should have had 2 raids rather than one on 3 day lockouts it would have kept people occupied.

was a little disappointed that doing quests at lv 40 almost gives the same gold as lv 25. so i wont be doing any extra questing this time.

got don with pvp way faster this time around.

all that is left is a dungeon every 3 days. i do think we may see a significant drop in players over the next few weeks

It quite literally does not considering it has half as many runes and of which 2 runes appear to be the same way to unlock so there’s even less variety in rune acquisition and world changes.

He says the opposite in every topic while trying to insult. Just report for trolling and ignore.

Regarding this topic. p2 has a very noticeable lack of content, specially if you somewhat maxed out p1. U wont need to do dungeons, u can get 2 rings, neck and bracers. Most of which are bis or second bis for p2. Some can even get weps.

So it comes down to suffering a few STVs for 1 more bis or second bis item, and mind u, all these are extremely close in power. And then just raid log.

Not my problem

But what additional content should they add?

Even if they would have introduced an additional new dungeon how many times could you run it till you get bored of it?

Introducing things such as daily quests would probably upset all the classic purists again.

MMO content can only give that much and it should have been expected as we dont have full access to all areas of the game.

MMOs content is also in part player driven so if they are not willing to do that ofc everyone will claim to be bored im pretty sure its always been like that in classic.

Could have added in challenge dungeons or heroic dungeons.

Could have turned SM into a 2nd raid.

Could have added in world quests with some new reputation or progression system.

Could have chosen some relatively contained map and turned it into a new battleground, like Un’goro or Dustwallow Marsh.

If there were more runes or class quests or whatever for every class then there’d be more fresh things to the world, encouraging you to play on alts.

Could have added in more PVE events around the world. Like occasionally the Crossroads gets attacked by Centaurs or something.

Could have added in more variety of loot to dungeons to encourage players to replay them. Of that loot you could add in tons of new effects to the loot that aren’t necessarily just powerups from BFD gear. Like a few pieces of gear that causes your healing spells to have a 5% chance to flare up in AOE for 5 yards for 50% to additional friendly units.

Could’ve just added in a bunch more quests, easier said than done I know, and then relegate them to class specific quests so that in order to see everything SoD has to offer it encourages you to replay with alts and the experience is new because there are new quests for every class.

Could’ve added in new recipes to work for through some new reputation system that required a different grind. Like finding magical tomes for a librarian who’d give you old recipes long forgottten or something.

Could have turned Shimmering Flats’ race course into a usable race course for us players and held tournaments where we can work our way up the ranks to get a wicked new gnomoblin-esque mount.

The sky’s the limit of what you ‘could’ do.
Some of these would require more work than is feasible however.

[edit]

I counted the zones that are relevant to a leveling and questing experience in P1 for a horde character. Durotar/Mulgore/Tirisfall counts as one as you’re meant to be there from 1-10, then we got Barrens, Stonetalon Mountains, Ashenvale, Silverpine, Hillsbrad, then there are a few alliance areas we need to pop into for runes as well, they aren’t areas we spend a lot of time inside of but we still visit them, Redridge, Westfall, Duskwood, Loch Modan and Wetlands. And you ‘can’ go and do some things in Thousand Needles if you want to.

That means we got 11 runes per class (ignoring Grizzby as it is the same for everyone) for 8 classes spread out over 1 starting area (of which the rune acquisition isn’t always the same for classes, adding more variety and flavor) 5 leveling up areas and 5 opposite faction areas we visit for a few runes. Then there’s one area we can tryhard into for some goodies.

Now contrast this with Phase 2 and what do we have?
Stonetalon, Ashenvale, Thousand Needles, Desolace, Hillsbrad, Arathi, STV, Swamp Of Sorrows and Badlands. That’s 9 level up areas and areas containing runes.
Then we have a few areas we can tryhard into because they got a few quests and enemies we can take on like Feralas and Tanaris. There’s no alliance areas we have to visit.

So we have 4 runes (ignoring Dark Riders and the elf killer questline as they are the same for every class it seems) for 8 classes spread out over 9 level up areas. And then we have 2 areas we can tryhard into for some goodies.

Part of why Phase 2 might just feel less interesting is because, well it is. The amount of fresh new content is diluted among more areas with less runes. I’m not gonna say that adding in 400 new runes is a good thing but if you’re gonna limit the amount of runes then you have to make up for it with something else. They didn’t.

So ignoring the tryhard areas we got 11 runes spread out over 5 level up areas and 5 areas we visited briefly just for a rune or two vs 4 runes spread out over 9 level up areas that you’re going to spend a lot of time inside of.

That might be why there’s less of an interest in playing alts as well. Because, well, there’s not enough ‘new’ content for an alt to do that you didn’t just already do with your main.

They outlined their points and you didn’t read them or respond to them.

The runes are easier to get and don’t take much time to get them. No need to bring out a rep or collect difficult to get items from different zones to get them.

No need to do dungeons as there isn’t any upgrades in them from BFD gear.

The PVP event could be done by a warlock in a single event and all the gear they wanted was obtained right away.

WSG was loss after loss and loss so the rep/honor isn’t worth the trouble to this player.

Crafting was maxed out and nothing specially can be made in this phase due to not being able to smelt a needed ore.

I don’t know how else they can spell it out. They tried to do everything, but there was no reward in any other activity.

Go away and stop being toxic.

You can farm AB rep, either from the STV event or BGing for instant lvl60 epics which are pretty good for casters, and a good melee cloak. The defiler boots on their own are worth the farm. BG matchmaking is rly good now without premades.

The STV event now without lag and layer issues is the best PvP event blizzard have come up with, worth doing just for the sheer raw pvp fun.

Runes being not as annoying to get is a +

If you dont have BFD gear there are dungeons to farm for pre-raid bis.

You can start stocking up on gold for your epic mount, there are high lvl mobs to farm with good mats drops that sell for a solid amount.

If you have alts, its a good idea to level them bit by bit, as 25-40 can be a lot slower now with lack of instant dungeonfarm grps like on launch.

Theres literally the same amount of stuff to do as p1, except for the grinding for preraid bis gear part.

If you are a PvPer you will find theres a lot more stuff to do. If not, not my problem.

You wish, suck it up

Exp gain for alts should be increased all the way to 40, currently who wants to dungeon grind again after doing it on main.
