Kruul needs a little nerf

For the first 80+ attempts, I never even saw Kruul land… I struggled and struggled, yet I defeated him in about 80 tries in Legion. So I’ve spent about 150k on gear, gems and enchants, farmed for old school overpowered trinkets and spent nearing 220k on consumables and now, I get to see Kruul about 3/10 attempts and 90% of the time, I die with him being on about 20% HP and only twice got him to 9% HP and just once to 5% HP…
Initially it was because it was just too overwhelming, but I’m pretty good with the add management now in P2, but Kruul just hits too hard, slows me too much with that green stuff and that stacking debuff he casts just tears me apart, even with my damage reduction abilities used.
I’m now nearing 250 attempts and I will get it at some point, but I can honestly say that, I think all of Kruul’s damaging abilities need reducing about 10%, except Annihilate, which of course is intended to be interrupted.

Blizz please do something, as I started with Guardian and I refuse to even look at another challenge until I have that bear appearance! And yet, I completed multiple of the Mage Tower challenges in Legion, I think about 16 or so, on various characters and specs.

PS, most of my Legion characters, weren’t even the best geared either.

I have the same story basicly. I had an attempt with 1.88% HP left. This challange is still overtuned no matter which angle I look at it.

Get the trinket from the first boss in The Emerald nightmare, Set your loot to feral for the kill.
this is a good AOE trinket which leave a pool on the floor.

as the horror spawn, throw a regen on yourself jump into bear form and get rdy to interrupt varis. when you get to varis by using skull bash use the trinket and the horrors and varis will all be in the trinkets pool all taking damage. the horrors die from the passive damage, then you run out and keep using spells on varis.
Make sure you moonfire the eyes and face them when they cast the lazer beam on you.
do this twice and varis is dead, literally like 1 min 30 seconds.

get use to doing that like 100 times lol

just before kruul spawns. try keep varis alive on like 3% and make sure the round of horrors are dead, then moonfire varis a few times to kill his last 3% then kruul will be up

pop stampeeding roar run away from kruul pop a heal and moonfire and sunfire kruul and jump into bear form run to him pop your drums and unbridled fury potion and incarnate and use the Seed trinket. now lay into that b**ch with everything you have, keep kiting as much as you can. keeping an eye on the horror spawns. this is where your orbs come into play. when you kruul use annilihlate use an orb. when u see horrors casting use incap roar. and when you see kruuls twisting something interrupt it with skull bash or use an orb.

the very last 10~15% is hectic but its all about keeping calm and slow.

Best of luck. took me easilly 500 pulls to do it. im dumb at druid btw.

Everything you suggested I do and I also use that trinket too, but I still struggle. I’m constantly surviving Kruul, until about the 3-4 Annihilate and then that’s it, I’m screwed, even with all my damage reduction abilities…

all i can say bro, is keep going, take a break. go again. never give up and you will get it. gl

319 attempts and finally got it! :grinning: :grinning: :grinning:
I still feel it needs some nerfs to their damage and I would like consumables disabled and “set in stone templates”, so that I don’t have to spend well over 400k gold on gear and consumables and have to farm old raids for out dated gear…
It’s really a bad design! Please fix it Blizz!

Just got him down butI agree with the OP that this encounter is a bit overtuned. They could just lengthen the time between horrors, infernal casts etc a little bit, that would leave the encounter intact but making it a bit more forgiving.

I have had Kruul down to sub 15% a few times now with 2 SI’s still available, but what gets me are those infernals that seem to be out of wack.

I would be moving past them before the smash and get banged into oblivion. I literally would fly diagonal to the smash of the platform. I have had eyes knock me back before they have even cast their channel.

But at 380 pulls P1 is no more a challenge, except for the above mentioned. In P2 I just need to get the execution on point on those damn Twisted Reflection interrupts. GCD’s are messing around which we did not have back in Legion.

I was you. First 80-100 tries I think I got to phase 2 about 3 times, and every time I “panicked”.

I spent about 50 tries getting to p2 consistently, though I would still get punted out of the platform occasionally in P1. I finally defeated him after around 200 tries.

I used bethic gear I purchased for mana pearls, as well as a couple of enchants (weapons and 2-3 items), and 2-4 gems. Used a legendary legion ring, BFA cloak and neck, and legion weapons. Trinkets were ravaged seed pod and mechanical dragonlin. I used Steak ala mode and legion flask, as well as potion of unbridled fury in phase 2.

Whenever I wasn’t banging my head against the mage tower, I would study YT videos to see where I went wrong. How to kite the elementals, how to avoid purple beams, how to get more uptime on boss, etc.

Finally I changed my bear transmog to the normal “dire rat” form. I had serious trouble jumping over purple beams despite YT making it look so easy, and I think the bear form I used has a slightly larger hit box, making it harder to jump over the beams. I managed to kill him first try after changing the transmog.

I though I was a “slow learner” at 200 pulls, but apparently not. What I did was study different YouTube videos of the kill, and try to figure out how to properly kite elementals, killing shades, and best avoiding purple beams.

I never did manage to do “OMG Super DPS” to the shades that I see in YT videos, despite having the same gear. I would consistently see people down them before they finished casting the AOE, and I have never killer them before that.

If you’re not already, get a WeakAuras add on for it. The one I used (Mage Tower Tank Challenge) has a big air horn that goes off whenever something needs interrupting.

I also wrote a small macro that basically targets my focus target if it exists, and casts skull bash. If no focus target exists, it just picks my current target. That helped a lot in P1 where I could target eyes, and interrupt drain life with just one cast.

I also had a macro that would cast ironfur if I spammed Thrash. I was basically just a cast sequence with a reset of 1 second, but it helped keep down the number of buttons I needed to press.

And I also changed my bear transmog to the standard “dire rat”. The claws of Ursoc one would constantly have problems avoiding the purple beams, and it was pretty much impossible to jump over them.

I also studied videos of how to move in P2. I would constantly get trapped between beams, green snot and elemental knock backs, and I’ve probably wiped 40 times alone from shades going straight for Velen and killing him before I could get there.

These were the main reason I died in P2 (and P1 for that matter). What helped me is to always move unless there are no elementals around. Always. They aim their knockback at your current position and I found that if I stood still and I started moving only when they began to cast, it is already too late (might be b/c my reaction time sucks … ). So I kept moving in circles around them. That seemed to help.

Oh, an Goblin gliders allow you to screw up once if you click them fast enough!

I eventually figured out that their knock back is rather narrow, and there’s a 5+ second window between their casts, and in the end I mostly just ignored them in P1. Whenever the alert came, I immediately stepped out of the way ever so slightly, and resumed casting.

For P2 I didn’t have time to worry about elementals, so I basically kited Kruul in a circle around Velen for easier orb access and to be able to get to the shades as soon as they ran for him.

That was probably what I did wrong for the first 30-40 P2 tries. I tried kiting Kruul near the edge, but as I was getting knocked around I couldn’t make it to Velen before he got AOEd to death.

I have been trying this and what I have found is that there is actually no real accurate way to avoid them except for keeping on moving.

I actually have a video where I stood next to the smash ground effect and got punted of the platform. And to add to that, punted diagonally to the actual smash animation.

The last “pleasant” experience was the Infernal still busy reanimating, turning 180 degrees and smash me of the platform, as I was flying I could see his health bar appear.

I think that I am around 200 pulls, and I got max 9%, 5% 2 x times and a 7%. Kruul seems so wrong, elemental are a nightmare, I hate infernals, and I feel a bit frustrated. I am lf any typs, because I have no clue how to do it. I see during some video that they got barely annhiliate or any kind of damage. And why Velen should get oneshot from some elementals? Seems not correct xD I feel a bit demotivate, because tower mage disappear soon, and I spent a lot of golds for nothing. And a lot of vacation time. I think that they should nerf kruul hp directly. My english is not good enough to give more suggestions, and I am feel that this fight is not funny anymore. Idk why Blizzard nerf always everything, but not this.

I’m really depressed by this. I’m at about 340 attempts. I’ve got all kinds of socketed gear, enchants, the right trinkets (28,6% of my damage) + potions (12,6% of my damage), but I can’t get Kruul down fast enough. I tried changing more agi gems to versatility, thinking I could last longer - but of course it also makes me kill him slower. I’ve tried pre-pot’ing, but even if fewer initial infernals make things slightly less chaotic, I just can’t get him down fast enough. Sooner or later the RNG aligns against you, so an infernal behind Kruul punts you, the green ooze keeps you from reaching that last horror with your roar, the ping-pong makes you miss a twisted reflection kick on Kruul - or the last annihilate becomes too much. I have no clue how to improve this. It’s beyond demotivating. I’ve spent all my ingame gold - and some rl money on tokens, most of my christmas vacation time on this and I’ll have nothing to show for it. I was hoping that maybe Blizz would finally tune the encounter with the reset today, but no such luck. Could you at least give us a noob version of the bear skin for trying, Blizz? I don’t care about bragging rights - I just want a pretty bear…

Do you use the Potion of Unbridled Fury? It does insane damage to Kruul in P2.

Try kiting / moving Kruul outside of the orb field, this gives you two advantages.
-You dont get hit as much by the purple ping pongs
-You keep your orbs clear of green patches.

Stay in constant movement. Dont forget about your stampeding roar.

Regarding the horrors, as soon as they spawn and start to move, heal yourself to get aggro (if it doesnt help, moonfire their faces). Dont move to them unless its absolutely necessary, let them move to you. Cause as soon as you move to them, you mess up your first rule. Dont ruin the orb field.

Take the first two annhilations with IF (2x stacked) and IF + BS. Then try to extend the next one as long as possible with Stun and Orbs. Stay healthy before the hits. There is really not alot of dmg incomming except the horrors and annhilation that you need to deal with. and as long as you are in movement, the infernals should not hit you since they take like 2 years to cast.

Oh and i used crusader compared to your demonslaying since it gives tons of survivability with the random heals. But i guess that’s personal preference.

And what are you running the STR enchantment on your shoulders for?

Good Luck!

First of all, hang in there… It took me 646 tries to get it done.

My suggestions for you:

  • Get the seed pod trinket if you don’t have it yet. (Emerald Nightmare first boss)
  • Try and find YOUR most comfortable path to kite Kruul around the room. The further away from the center allows some time to judge the beams better.
  • Never stand still, rather walk backwards whilst fighting Kruul. Single Target DPS Kruul when there is no Horrors. Save you pod trinket for the times the Horrors and Kruul are together
*Use the orbs to delay the 3rd and 4th Annihilate.
*Make sure to pick up all the Horrors, in P2 they tend to have a slightly different aggro response

Second last piece of advice, see how far you get with out consumables. You sort of force yourself to be more efficient that way, and once you have the efficiency, get back on the consumables and the kill is only a few pulls away.

Last piece of advice, take a break… Go through the fight in you head and replay it over and over there. Does not cost you anything…

Where are you on DPS at this point?

It needs nerf because YOU can’t do this ? almost all druids run with new form anyway, should be enough to make you see that it’s problem with you, not with mage tower itself. It’s optional content for cosmetics, If you can’t make it, it means it’s time to train more so eventually you can obtain it one day. GL

Meanwhile 15% of all profiles completed one challenge according to wowhead [1] and only 4% according to dataforazeroth [2] not even taking only druids into account.

Now where exactly is your proof for your blatantly false and annoyingly entitled statement you’re trying to make?

This forum is like a trump campaign where no facts are allowed. Glad my sub is not running at the moment but what is still fun, is to debunk all of those “MT is fine it is a you problem” liars on the forum.

Ofc I got the bear because otherwise this messed up elitistic community wont count any voice here. I’m with OP on this one.
