Anouk It's certainly weird, but I don't really care.
The less mages, the better.
Neither do I, not entirely. In the end, I play a Hunter, so I will race change into a tight Kul Tiran as soon as possible.
The point is, Kul Tiran Mages, while certainly rare, would have made much more sense than Tauren Priest/Paladin or Goblin Shamans who were just asspulls.
It is a relief that this is being discussed on all social medias right now, including Reddit and MMO-Champion. It is an injustice. Hopefully the cunning developers will listen to our pleas.
Considering Daelin himself chose to employ Thalassian high elves mages and priests during the Third War for his expedition against the Horde, it is indeed not a big stretch to think that the Kul Tiran mages all hail from Dalaran (or were trained there) as well. And therefore are to be considered Dalarani rather than Kul'Tiran...like Jaina herself, actually.
Alex Afrasiabi, Lead World Designer and Creative Director for World of Warcraft, agrees that Kul Tiran Mages should be playable. This was from an interview yestday with Afrasiabi and Patrick Dawson, Lead Software Engineer:
I agree with you. I'm one voice. I'm loud, though. And I can't be snarky.
We fought back and forth on this. I think part of it is always going to be 'how do they look when they do this thing that's integral to the class, right, like spellcasting'.
[...]
I agree and I would say 'look, if you've got Jaina Proudmoore who's probably the most powerful mage on Azeroth... By Golly, Kul Tirans should be able to be mages as well!'. I may lose this battle, by the way, but I do want to say that I agree and this is just to show you that we're passionate developers and we won't come all and like a bunch of automatons that are all looking at the same thing and agreeing at the same thing. We all have different opinions.
I cannot promise you that Kul Tirans will be mages. But what I can promise you is that we'll have the discussion and maybe they can, maybe they will, maybe they won't, maybe it's some future down the line we'll have some questline where Jaina comes down and smashes Blizzard staff (laughter). I'm kidding, I'm kidding, I'll make that questline myself.
But I think that it's always something that we should be talking about, discussing, and we don't do anything out of spite, we do things out passion and love for the game. Even not allowing Kul Tirans to be mages.
I am glad that Blizzard are discussing this internally. Even from a simple logical standpoint, It's just silly that Kul Tiran Mages are not playable when I am greeted by a Kul Tiran Mage on the loading screen. Dawson also mentioned that they don't have a final answer.
Personally? It really isn't that difficult to figure out how Kul Tiran Mages could work.
A) Kul Tiran Mages have studied in Dalaran for years but decided to Boralus after the Third War and are usually very secretive and lonely, given how the Arcane is somewhat shunned by most Kul Tirans;
-OR-
B) After Lord Admiral Jaina Proudmoore's rise to power, small schools were opened throughout Boralus to allow gifted Kul Tirans to be taught in the ways of the Arcane, In order to learn how to control their powers and use them for the good of the Proudmoore Admiralty.
Come on, if they can make Tauren Priests and Paladins (who were truly pulled out of nowhere) work, so they can with Kul Tiran Mages.

Arctur Kul Tirans can't be Mages even though their leader, Lord Admiral Jaina Proudmoore, is the most powerful Human sorceress alive. #Logic
lol yeah...
so much I just focused on the shaman class confirmation that I forgot to check if KT could be mages... Seemed obvious to me... Then no...
Monk available instead.

Arctur Apparently, Pandaren Mages (I have literally never seen a Pandaren Mage NPC in the game) and Mag'har Mages (who were never allies of Undead/Blood Elves, so I don't know how they learnt Magic in the first place...) make much more sense than Kul Tiran Mages.
From a factual PoV there are mage pandaren NPCs, sometimes under the title "Omnia" that work under the Shadopan
https://www.wowhead.com/npc=62789/omnia-mage
From a pure lore perspective (so headcanon there) many races of Azeroth learnt the Arcane from the Mogu (who get it from their titan ancestry).
The Mogu learnt the arcane to the trolls (Zandalari tribe, then maybe lesser tribes, even dark trolls then kaldorei - who also learnt thanks to the relics around the WoE of course - and so on) but the Mogu were later subjugated by the Pandaren. The Pandaren Mages likely got their arcane knowledge from the Mogu then.
As for the Clan Orcs, the Shadowmoon practice astromancy (you can even see NPCs with crystals like the mage talent at the border of Arakk), Burning Blade prophets use fire magics, and some Frostwolves arguably use frost magic in a way of the mages (but also shamans ofc)

Yep 100% this, this almost seems out of spite to a degree. Humans teaching eachother is more than enough explanation, the portal lady is a Kul'tiran mage...

Arctur A) Kul Tiran Mages have studied in Dalaran for years but decided to return to their homeland after the Third War and are usually very secretive and lonely, given how the Arcane is somewhat shunned in Kul Tiras;
-OR-

If not, you'll still be able to roleplay as a kultiran mage ...as a regular human.
Since the "muscular" (and the "thin") humans are not options for "official" kultirans, then one can assume the muscular kultiran NPCs are part of the regular Human race too, which have access to mage class as a PC race.

Was thinking this aswell, but then why can't they be druids? I doubt every Kul'tiran druid is big.
Personally It's BS that Kul Tiran Humans do not have a customizable body type (a feature that many players have been requesting for years and was recently added for Orcs). Sure there are many Bulky Kul Tirans in the game, and I love them, but personally if I were to create a Kul Tiran Priest, I would rather use the Thin Kul Tiran body type (who cares if there is no female version? There is also no hunched version of Female Orcs).
All in all, I cannot wait for Kul Tirans, they are the best thing in the game, but Blizzard made a few questionable choices when designing this Allied Race.
From the World of Warcraft official website:
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/game/pvp/battlegrounds/tol-barad"What remained of the blackened, derelict battlements was left to languish until Kul Tiran
wizards claimed the isle for a new purpose."
"the
arcanists turned the citadel’s defenses inward, designing a mystical prison to hold the most powerful criminals."
Do note that Tol Barad is one of the world's largest prisons, so the group of Kul Tiran Mages that held it had to be quite large.

Ohyea, I forgot that Tol Barad used to be a part of Kul Tiras... Honestly, we keep getting more and more reason to have them added.
Anyways most people seem to agree with you for once, Arctur! :D

Yes, I am pleasantly surprised that this insanely anti-Human forum is sympathetic to my noble cause for once. In truth, when I first made this thread, I was afraid. Afraid that Night Elf fanboys would accuse me of trying to have Humans do everything and turn this into another "Human Potential" debate.
I smell another transition from Stormwind into Kul Tiras.
Arctur's memoirs: "There, and back again...."

The thing is, I was so desperate to play a Kul Tiran Human that I tried to transmog as one. But that is illogical, It's like those desperate Void Elf players who roleplay as High Elves. What's the point?
The difference is, KUL TIRANS will be playable in the future. High Elves will not (/smirk). All I have to do now is wait for December, when Patch 8.1 releases, complete the second part of the Alliance War Campaign, and finally become a tight, bulky and big-boned Human. NOT a "Fat" (what a silly and childish term) Human.

You can only become a Kul Tiran after patch 8.1.5 is released, so you still have to wait a bit. But if you are looking for a tight, bulky, big-boned (quasi-)Human, the Dwarves are there waiting for you. :) Just kidding.
Also, of course I support Kul Tiran Mages, and Paladins!

You did not just say that.
Arctur, you'll be a called a traitor again if you do this..

I heard that Blizzard is thinking about a high elf Void elf customization.
I'm more suprised that Kul Tiran can be priests. They do not worship the light and void using tidesages were enemies.

Bradik They do not worship the light
This is false.
There is a Chapel in Drustvar. Daelin brought Paladins to Durotar.
Also, Boralus has been trading with other Human cities for many centuries, I would be surprised if in all these years no traveller from Lordaeron or Stormwind had spread the Church of the Holy Light a little.
