Language Barrier

So i play on an English speaking realm but lately due to the connected realms system for the LFG tool ive found myself in groups with people who cant seem to speak English their names and all communication seem to be Greek (at least i assume its Greek because i recognise some of the characters as being from that alphabet) this has led to some very frustrating moments when trying to explain things or ask them to do something or even them trying to talk to others in M+ runs

has anyone else ever encountered something like this and how did you get past the language barrier?

The language marked on the realm isn’t the required language of the players, it merely indicates in which language the support is given.

There aren’t any restrictions (except Cyrillic maybe) in place for servers.

Back in wotlk Runetotem EU was invaded by Italians before it was majority English speaking and in the span of few weeks the server became unplayable because the main language turned into Italy.

By that point most English speaking people had already left or were leaving the server i too left soon after because language barrier and general hostility on the server that point.

We rarely use the Greek alphabet ign tbh. (can be an exceptions, but majority uses latin)

We write with Latin letters, as it is easier to switch to English and etc.

Rarely do I encounter people that can’t speak English in WoW.

If anything I am envious of them, all I can speak in is English. Could never grasp a second language… :frowning:

You don’t. Just check when the group was formed if everyone understands some English. Doubt? Leave.

I’ve not met a lot of people who were unable to speak English in WoW. I think the group finder makes sure of that. The only cases I’ve met were like Russians who barely spoke English but knew enough words to get around, and often someone can translate. Now I’m not talking about (E)BGs, because that’s a mix of everyone that randomly queues up and gets put together with French, German, Russian, Italian etc mixed together and often having people spam crap in their native language.

Yes, I find myself every now and again in non-English groups. If I feel we need to know something as a group, I always say “Guys, I don’t speak your language. Tell me in English if you are discussing something important about your strategy. Thanks”. That’s it. There is at least one person who can do that in simple words. I don’t mind if I have joined the groups etc. because it’s their choice.
