After returning from my vacation recently, I noticed a clear shift in player quality in Cata classic from just a couple of weeks ago.
In basically every RDF group, there’s one or more player that doesn’t seem to have played the game before. They do like 2-3k dps (at max level), press need on every single item, never respond to anything in chat, and just play the game like they never played WoW before.
What happened when I was gone? Did a lot of people that never played an MMO before suddenly start playing Cata classic? Are these bots? Or is 30% of the playerbase just out to troll? Did anyone else experience this within the last couple of weeks? This kind of behaviour was not as common before.
Im not sure if its new players because lately i see a lot of almost full bis people doing 6k dps on a massive aoe pull or like 8k on a boss with full cds and bloodlust
Indeed, but a game that still requires you to push buttons while playing it. I don’t mind inexperienced players, but at or close to max level you’re kinda expected to somewhat pull your weight when participating in group content.
RDF in and of itself was specifically introduced to allow people who didn´t want to /couldn’t go through the process of building a group manually via chat to allow to experience the content. not “so people that already take the game seriously can save the effort”.
If you grab 4 random people off the street, some of them not even knowing what a video game is, and put them in an RDF group, do you really think it´s reasonsonable to expect them to perform at a level that´s up to your standards?
Because that is, in essence, exactly what you´re doing. Complaining about 4 completely random people that were never informed about nor agreed to your expectations to fulfill them.
Don´t want to deal with randoms? Then make friends and queue with them, instead. Most of us have been doing exactly that since RDF was introduced in OG Wrath and rarely have any problems as a direct result.
That’s why I don’t support paid level boost from Blizz Store.
Back then when people went through the leveling process, they learned about their class, it’s abilities, and how to use them.
Now you can just fresh jump into the game, never played any MMORPG before, get level 80 immediately on your 1st char, and go straight to the RDF, because it’s more convenient and rewarding than doing quests.
Even though I first played WoW in original BC expansion, I still don’t know everything about WoW, and sometimes I find myself unaware or misinformed about how some boss abilities work in WoW Classic. When that happens though, I try to find more information or ask for explanation.
For this exact reason I’m tolerable towards new unexperienced players, and try to explain things, that I’m confident about knowing them well.
How many new players however use Wowhead to read some basic guides about their class and the content they are about to participate in? How many of them bother to open Dungeon Journal and read through boss abilities before they enqueue in RDF?
Issue is not really that “everyone” is allowed to enter PUG via RDF tool, issue is when people who have barely any experience feels entitled to “being carried” through the dungeon without spending any effort to learn more than how to move and interact with NPCs in-game. Thankfully there is not that many of them.
Honestly, I have never seen anyone doing 2k dps since level 80. You are either exaggerating or have really bad luck. Or you are the 2k dps player yourself.
In my own anecdotic evidence I see it in about every 5th group that there is one player doing less than 10k, which is still not great. Especially in ZA/ZG, where the required item lvl is higher, even the low tier specs should be able to be over 10k on a tank&spank boss fight.
But still, as I have stated it is roughly every 5th group where there is truly someone clueless (had a unholy dk lately who was spamming olbiterate and blood strike and didn’t change even after I gave him some advice), so that would 1/25 players being clueless if I did the math right.
But that is a common known thing about perceptuion, that the bad experience always stick on and stay in our memory while we quickly forget the good things.
I play horde mainly and noticed an uptick in new players in randoms. Don’t think they’re bots as the majority will speak if spoken too. Personally have put it down to the new expansion on retail bringing people back which can’t be a bad thing.
