No there is no Grovi Grovi in final fantasy, though it would have been a nice name. FF got a searchable database of all characters.

Surnames are good as they make it easier for people to get a name they want, so they don’t have to see “that name is unavailable” 10-15 times when they try to name their character.

There’s also the option of only adding a surname for those who want it, so you’d just go and talk to an npc and tell it you want a surname. I’ve played another MMO where they had that, you could also remove it again or change it if you payed a small sum of gold. But then it’s just for roleplay and won’t affect anything else.

It would be good if it could be like it is in SWTOR - you pick a family name and all your alts share it.

Really don’t think having people running around with names like “Legendary Dragonkiller” or “Anime God” would make the game better
 i think it would make it worse and rather cringe tbh.

i already have a chosen last name for this char only obviously
did try to name my new mage but max letters were enough to make ariannastorm
when my FF char is arianna stormwake (from the alliance tidesage faction in stormsong)

Might be a minority here as a RPer, but I would honestly love that. My character got a first name and last name anyways, so writing those in and ridding of the accent letter would be awesome for me.

Hear hear, just make it optional and upon deciding to pick a last name, it allows you to “unaccent” letters in your name if you wish (maybe get a free rename?)

I’d have no problem with last names as like you, on an RP server as a “when the mood strikes” RPers all my chars (Pandas) have last names i’d love to have shown:

Jinjo Honeybrew
Junzhi Starcask
Ken Zhao Longkeg
Ghang Zong Longkeg

Id love this too
but then again I play mostly on RP servers so of course Id love the idea (obviously in my head this character has a last name!).
I imagine some people would abuse the idea and give their characters tragically dumb names or offensive ones but as long as they stay off the RP realms I wouldnt have to see them!LOL

To be fair the people giving themselves names like that don’t tend to be RP’ers anyway, so that problem would not be the problem you think it might.

RP’ers tend to be more creative with their name and not just pick names ripped wholly from other games/films/or WoW NPC names.
