So one of the most annoying things about making an alt is getting a name, since so many names are taken even if they are inactive the names are still taken. Would it be possible to get a Lastname system like final fantasy has or maybe like black desert. It would make it easier to get a name. Like you do on battlenet you get a number behind you so you can have whatever name you want, just instead of numbers, its a Lastname. Would help a lot and be a nice quality of life feature.

Oh gosh, this would be lovely!
But it would need to be optional, as many people may not want to add one. As in, you can either pick a unique name, or a common name with a unique last name combination.

Yeah, that would be pretty cool as well. Just make the option available atleast. It will stop people from having names like “Blâckdôg”
It looks so stupid when people are forced to use those special letters to get a good name they want.

Getting forced to pick a 2nd name sucks, and usally end up making your main name sound stupid ( atleast to my experience )

It does more good than harm though, especially if they make it completely optional.
Almost all the time the name you want is taken, especially on RP realms having last name option would help a lot of players.

I’m not a fan of surnames either, but I do understand people find it harder and harder to come up with names they like.
I think a compromise to allow people to get more names would be if they adopted something similar to how connected realms currently work. They show your realm name so that you can actually have two Punyelfs or five, depending on how many realms are merged into one. They could do something similar with bnet or a nominated account name. It would only need to appear if there was someone with the same name in your group.

When they introduced the last name (actually the space between two or more word) option in SW:ToR was a blast
Not to mention bioware made a tons of money with the name change
Would be an RP haven to have that in WoW
That and a the abilitiy to mog any tipe of armour to any type

I would like surnames but at the same time I don’t mind what they do but something surely has to be done. It’s ridiculous how hard it is to get a good name now. I mean character limit is 50. So one player can have 50 names taken. That’s a lot.

Use total rp 3 and people who use it will see your Windrunner or Starbreeze lastname in chat
Standing out of the crowd is mostly a good thing in an MMO, as with this, if your name were taken on other servers this helps to differentiate the characters for those who want to find you. Granted it’s extra work to find something suitable - I’m still thinking what the best possible name this toon could have, and planning on using Dunkiee as a nickname in between.
No thanks, last names are a cheap way of knocking unique character names out of the game.

That doesn’t make sense. It does the opposite? I mean that -is- exactly how last names work in our real life society? Otherwise how would I be differentiated from the thousands of other people in my country alone with the same first name? I mean when in recorded history have we ever not had first and second (often more) names as a concept?
Just use TRP or MRP, job sorted.

I have to agree. In previous topics I have thought it would be a good idea, specifically to make unique names easier to get, but as a newbie in FFXIV I found it hard to choose a surname… it took me quite a while to decide on one.
Avecduvin would be the only surname for Shammoz
