Hi!
There was Makgora recently announced in front of the SW Gates. Everyone came to watch, however few could, because it was on layer 4, while other ppl were on other layers. And not so many ppl willed to invite to the layer 4.
Is that designed that way, so people couldn’t watch each other activities without begging for layer in chat? Can Blizz do something with that?
Yes because layering exists to divide realm load in certain zones. Since high peak is detected, its intentional that layering happened.
Not related to this case even if you’re invited to the layer through group/raid if that particular zone is heavily populated you may be denied to zone in to protect realm stability.
Someone could have streamed the event, if it was so important

I think Blizz have to do a public layer where all player can switch manually. It will solve the problem

Not if 256 people decide to swap to that layer in same zone. And that WILL happen.
then we are back to 2005 server crashes (or 2023 Stitches crashes :-D)

It will solve a player problem of wanting to switch and create a Blizzard problem, of crashing the realm at worst and potentially causing mass deaths which I already pointed out in my post.
If at any point players want to swap layers they can do so already by being invited to that and then Blizzard at any point can still automatically decline this if it may pressure a zone too much.
If layer-invites at this stage is abused they may as well prevent layer hopping at all meaning friends/guilds/etc can’t play/trade with each other and so on, so it’s really not worth it.
In that case Blizz could add some sort of a virtual coliseum where rivals would be teleported after Makgora agreement. Others could join as spectators remotly from any part of Azeroth. It is quite entertaining to watch how another player is going to loose its character.
To this day it still deeply saddens me to know that any player who joined WoW (or may yet still) with Warlords of Draenor will never get to experience the same game that I did, and that I will never get to experience it again.
I met some of my closest friends to this day back in Goldshire during Wrath and Cata, when things like Sharding or Layering didn’t yet exist to arbitrarily segregate players.
I will never again be able to walk outside of Stormwind or Orgrimmar, or down to Goldshire and see thirty+ people just dueling and chatting for the sake of simply being social.
I know it might come across as melodramatic but man.

Its still busy enough to capture the essence of that. I understand why layering exists and I am happy for it to exist for as long as each layer has a minimum amount of players for that specific layer.
There’s nothing worse than spending more than you need to on a quest because you can’t tag a mob as it was on launch night for example/
It really is completely antithetical to the MMO experience, though. I was levelling an Undead Priest through Brill on HC when I heard of Preach’s Mak’Gora tournament happening through the grape vine.
If we were playing an older version of the game (one that Blizzard still cared to pay for servers for), I’d have been able to spontaneously walk over and spectate. Unfortunately we’re playing WoW in 2023, with servers (and no doubt adjusted netcode) so feeble as to not even be able to host WoW’s iconic 40v40 AV without utterly buckling under the load in the absence of layering and sharding to bail them out.
Please Blizzard delete layers. You have the smartest people in the world working at Blizzard, they can optimize the game in other ways such as prevent unnecessary data being sent to websites from the servers. There are loads of ways to improve server stability because it is currently bloated with unnecessary features because of retail features. Layers ruin the game because zones are now empty which makes it hard to make new friends and do elite quests and allows exploits such as farming mobs/bosses/rare and professions.
What gave you this impression? I would argue that quite the opposite is true. It has been a long time since i thought „ wow, what a great idea / change / piece of code“.
There are thousands of bots flyhacking through EPL every hour of the day, for example
i am not hacker and i am not cheating. i play for me and for glory. understand?
nobody will know it if i ever manage to go level 60.
