Layering is meant to keep the zones lagfree and keep the overall realm stability reliable. It would defeat the purpose if they can never adjust the individual player’s position based on what perceived activities they may be doing at that moment versus the group.
Although they do slightly delay it when the player is doing some stuff, but it will ultimately still move them. For certain problems they made adjustments in SOD which you can read more on the layering system as an example.
I started on Aszune, which was indeed low pop, but then I went to Frostmane, which was high pop, and then we all migrated to Stormscale. Just about the most high pop there was at the time.
It was still better. Yes it lagged every now and again, but what I got in return was a 500+ duelling community, super busy cities, and meeting players around the world all the time.
It appears you did not read the explanation on layering in my previous post, the relevant quote on why they move you from an “empty” layer to a more active one applies here:
It is likely engaged for your game version, as your layer is retired with you on it as the overall realm can manage it with that much layers at that moment.
I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve camped out for a Rare just to end up changing layers completely putting me off the spawn time count or having a Rare disappear on me, any events like getting 100% for Fyrakk’s Assault for the Disciple to land and suddenly disappearing reseting me back to 0% progress, or doing a Hunt solo to suddenly be reset back to 6/6 objects, etc. etc. etc.
It’s absolute BS the amount of time wastage this stupid system has caused! There should be a damn prompt to accept switching over or not at the player’s discretion… not this automated nonsense.
I have seen players complain myself about TLPD disappearing on them in the past so I agree it’s not really a good thing to happen. The mentioned “jarring” feeling by Aggrend confirms the dilemma they place themselves into.
This would not work as this is not up to player’s choice, otherwise everyone would install an addon defaulting in a “decline” choice meaning the manager may reach a critical mass eventually having to either “player no” versus “if we don’t move players over layers, the realm will crash”.
Without exaggerating, this layering/phasing fiasco is one of the reasons I am playing less and less. Talk about breaking immersion and disrupting my current in-game activities.
When they first introduced CRZ ages ago they said they would keep working on this tech and ensure the “integrity” of the experience at all times (and people on the forums were calling those of us who warned that this would kill server communities and would lead to more irresponsible and toxic player behaviour as a result were deemed doomsayers) but as always, the players have gotten used to this annoyance and “getting phased” is par for the course and to be expected during a play session.
You are a business client and this is cost-cutting.
I do have to mention an apparent workaround though and perhaps someone could confirm if my experience has any merit here. Seemingly, solo players are the first one to get phased to a different layer, so if you are grouped up with someone there is a lower chance of this happening.
Sometimes playing in a crowded place is far from ideal. For example when farming mobs or resources.
And the game does not recognize it. It will send you while mining to a layer without nodes.
It will send you while fighting rares to a layer without one.
Maybe they should wait till a few months after the launch of TWW with it, but why not merge servers? The number of them could easily be halved and we would have a healthy amount of people in each server and less of that sharding mess.
Why not give us an option in the system settings .
The option should be about allowing layering or disabling it .
When you disable it you get sent to one of first few layers and stay there .
Or hell maybe even dedicated layer for people with disabled layering .
It should come with a warning that you may experience over population or lag .
This way people can decide whether they want to use layering or not .
