Had an emergency so I logged off together with my leveling partner.
We knew we were in dangerous territory, but we knew if we logged back in together, even if there were respawns where we were standing we could handle it…
But… to our surprise when we logged back in we were no longer grouped and on different layers.
On his layer there were 3 mobs and on mine none. Immediately reformed the group but because of the layer transfer delay he died.
RIP. This was not the classic experience I remember.
Thanks for not giving us more servers and free transfers
You took the chance, instead of using heartstone or just run to a safe spot. It should’nt take more than a few seconds, even with wife aggro it should be possible
That should not come as a surprise, that is how Era (and WotLK?) works.
If you log out while being in a group for more than a few minutes, your group will be disbanded. Raid groups persists though, in case you want to re-do the exercise.
However, you might still end up logging into different layers.
I don’t think you understand what an emergency is.
And even if that is how it works, it is poorly communicated to the player. There is 0 documentation on layering, so unless you keep up and watch all the interviews and streams and what not, it’s almost impossible to know about.
I question the emergency part here. You were able to think and clear mobs and log off. And your partner couldn’t move to a safe area with you on follow?
Genuine emergencies are worth losing your character over
Its something we agreed to the risk of when making our character
It sucks that layers appear to have contributed, but without layers then the dynamic respawn rates could likely be even higher and you would probably be swamped by more than 3 mobs and die. Its impossible to know for sure but you could say that instead of layers killing one of you, it saved the other on login.
“This was not the classic experience I remember”
Because it isn’t supposed to be the classic experience you remember. Let’s start with the simple fact that dying means you cannot resurrect. Was that in the original classic ? Well… no.
I think it is time to drop the emotional “not my true classic experience” whenever we dislike something about the game.
