If I’d live there I’d probably decode it as well. But on TV I did not immediately find the logic, or perhaps particular channel lacked good shows for it. Word games, and quiz’s are very good to learn ‘patterns’ and pull connections and guessing what word means or how grammar looks like. And when you live on location and have friends, neighbours and collegues to help as well, then it is whole different game.
I believe environment is one of the best teachers, provided person has willpower.
I would advice you to consider adding this book to your TV sessions as a supplement for conquering Meatballish

Ha ! Unfortunately STV is no longer showing here as baseline and is not one of the 90+ channels I have currently. And any channel shown here comes with least one set of subtitles/dub in language I speak.
But maybe some point I should try Swedish again. Any word I know comes from Marie Fredriksson songs or from the guides form the ferries that go to Stockholm.
So you are living close to Saint-Petersbourgh…
Swedish can actually be useful for you, take it seriously, use books ![]()
Or not, no pressure ![]()
Russian is probably one of the hardest Europeon languages to learn… I doubt it I could master such a complex language it was hard enough learning basic Polish…
Just an FYI for everyone here:
Guess how I learned English?
This is how I learned English.
WoW is one of the best language training tools in the world.
I am not kidding.
Do it.
Sadly I have no interest in learning Russian. Currently going for Chinese.
Ofcourse ^^ I know foreigners struggle a lot with Swedish. It’s not a language spoken by many, after all. Being a native does make a difference
Danish is incomprehensible though, I’ve heard that even Danish kids struggle a lot with certain words and phrasing, I would never even attempt to learn Danish.
That’s actually true, it requires serious big brain and IQ to command the language ![]()
It requires you to be constantly drunk, since birth, to even have a chance
Most Swedens can read Danish and Norwegian just fine, but when you listen to it, it’s a whole different challenge
I am not Russian
but I love ferries, yes. It is my way to have a break, buy a cruise ticket and sleep on waves… Completely useless way to spend time on a cruise, but somehow refills batteries well. Baltic Sea is just best place for short term break. leave troubles at shores for a bit, turn off your phone and gadgets and just be.
If you speak French, then Russian should come easy. They have a lot of likeness in structure in my opinion (it is not scientific fact, just heart based feeling) with all those feminine and male words.
Every time I see Danish or Icelandic words I am having a lot amusement of how can those words even said out loud without twisting your tongue two-fold
Here is for example a Danish word which no Swede can read without losing mental health: grænsen
As I said it is a very demanding language and some other nations just don’t know the meaning/ have an analog of certain Danish words.
I think i can guess now where and it is not in Russia. If i am right it is country who we consired our sisters and brothers here in Finland. Love the place and been there many times.
I speak swedish and it’s been mostly usefull when freaking out swedish people in holiday destinations, when they think no one understands them. It has also been helpfull when learning dutch! But in Sweden everyone always speaks english to me when i visit there.
Danish pronunciation is hard. The rest of it isn’t particularly hard.
The Danish “stød” as well as soft d and the 9 different sounds of e, not counting stød, absolutely ****s foreign speakers up. It’s very obvious when you hear a foreigner speak Danish because of this. It often takes 15+ years before it goes away completely.
Danish also sounds “lazy”. Remember all those 9 sounds of e? Guess what is! It’s all our friggin’ vowels at the end of sentences starting to approximate e. They’re all different, and they sound like “lazy” versions of their former selves. It’s quite jarring.
Kids aren’t having particular issues though.
\o/
See gaming also occasionally unites people !
I would have to disagree there because in my experience i would say French for me is the hardest language to understand because of 2 reasons I don’t understand how French is written nor how to speak it at all. Also French language sounds in my head like someone has something chewing in his mouth with alot of spit.
Interesting word,in my head I read it like it’s a German word and I know it’s wrong.
