Learning Brewmaster - Looking for tips

Hi, I recently began my journey as a Brewmaster. I wanted a class to be able to cover all roles, but I don’t like both druids and paladins. So monk it is.

I have had a comfortable experience at tanking with my warrior, so there’s that. I do also usually play mages and rogues.

So, I currently am lvl 75, I usually do just fine, but sometimes I really struggle at staying alive.
Now, here’s what I usually do: open with a normal attack, wait 1 or 2 sec for mobs to be nearby and then use keg smash and set them on fire right after, all this while drinking ISB. Then I keep up ISB at all times with the occasional purify and orbs collecting. Rinse and repeat with keg smash and filler attacks as per Guides, yadda yadda.

I do have a couple of problems I don’t really know how to deal with:

brews aren’t a problem, I always manage to have enough to do everything and occasionally I recharge them fast with the other brew of which I can’t remember the name.

I do feel rather squishy though.
It’s not rare for me to kite, in fact I do it quite often when someone overpulls or things go A LITTLE south (like, 1 or 2 mobs more than expected). I ring of peace enemies to buy me time to recover, leg sweep them to buy more, torpedo away and whatever, but I always feel on the brink of death. I find myself carefully thinking about what to pull way more often than with a warrior. That, coupled with the fact that recently healers seem to forget to heal me and keep dpsing (or begin healing me at 10% hp which most of the times reveals to be too late) forcing me to heal myself while running away or inside the ring of peace, makes me feel like I’m missing something.

Also, another thing I find difficult is getting all the enemies’ aggro upon beginning a fight, having only 1 aoe attack on a 10+ seconds cooldown (that’s why I usually wait 1 or 2 seconds before keg smashing, so they usually get closer together).

Thanks in advance!

well, if you are keeping 100% uptime of ISB and purify every time you have red stagger (sometimes i purify yellow as well, if i have enough brew), it should be more than enough to stay alive, so it seems that you have bad luck on healers.
Also depends how much you are normaly pulling, i experienced some insane puller in my lvling and trust me, my holy trolladin was sweating behing his pointy ears to keep that madmane alive
And last, not least - dont forget, that unlike warrior, you are not taking less dmg, you are still taking same amount of dmg as any leather user, you are just spreading it, so with high stagger it will be an uphill battle for your healer to overheal stagger ticks

Thanks!
I usually don’t pull more than 3 or 4 enemies, basic packs more or less. If I do pull more I will surely be in trouble and have to kite. Yet I kind of feel that my health goes down rather fast, compared to my warrior while leveling.

Do you just stick to the overall normal strategy? I’ll post on my monk next so it can be seen and eventually corrected.

Also, how do you keep packs on you at the beginning of the fight when your keg smash in on CD? I usually lose 1 or 2 that werent in range of my keg smash and have to run to get them before they hit dpses

Here I am!

You can use [Provoke] to pick up 1 straggler.
You could Paralysis the other straggler & CjL+Provoke to pick him up.
If you’re not using Port for specific mechanics you can drop your spirit, chase/aggro multiple stragglers & port back to where you want to deal with them.

There may be more ways…

Once you hit 90, you’ll have access to the Rushing Jade Wind talent, it helps a lot with picking up mobs initially, and keeping them on yourself, too. You can also take the Summon Black Ox Statue talent at 60, drop it, taunt it, and it will taunt all enemies near the statue. You lose Ring of Peace, but if multi-taunt is your issue, then you can take this talent until you hit 90 and can take Rushing Jade Wind.

Thanks a lot! I was thinking about the statue but I was a bit skeptical because I’ve read that it has a rather big range, I didn’t want to risk to pull more monsters than exactly which ones I want, but I’ll give it a try! I’ll look into that talent as soon as I reach lvl 90 too then.

Edit: I’ve looked a bit more into rushing jade wind and it looks just like what I need to solve the aoe problem, thanks!
