So… Blizzard decided to change Elemental Shaman mid-season, again… even though they had ample time to test it on the PTR.
Recent news about the upcoming nerfs to Elemental Shamans has left a sour taste. Players have already recrafted their gear, spent considerable effort preparing new guides, simulations, and builds, and used catalyst charges to acquire new BiS gear. In short, we’ve had to change nearly everything, including our playstyle, just five weeks into the expansion.
Since the recent rework, our single-target damage feels a bit underwhelming, especially with the Tempest build being more focused on AoE/Cleave scenarios. The upcoming Ascendance nerfs, intended to reduce AoE damage, will also impact our ST damage. Meanwhile, Farseer is receiving only insignificant buffs, while Tempest is being nerfed drastically simply because of its AoE/Cleave potential.
All of this might be fine if Blizzard weren’t overtuning other classes (like Boomkin), even though some of these classes are already outperforming most specs by a mile in various scenarios.
For the first time in years, playing Elemental Shaman felt good, but all these changes (like the FoL passive removal or the 150% → 100% nerf on Ascendance) are pushing people toward rerolling or even quitting the game. Oh, and let’s not forget about the Frost Shock “buff” that seems designed to force players into using it—despite the consistently negative feedback ever since.
Elemental shaman was always a black sheep and a forgotten child. Can we please make it shine at least for one expansion or leave it in not-too-bad state to enjoy? Can we have some fun like Resto or Enha player?
Raids with a lot of movement mechanics or M+ with a lot of variables are not training dummies and it’s not so easy to pump 15mln DPS like you would in Orgrimmar, standing still, avoiding nothing.
FoL change was straight up nerf - so we got some compensation in burst and dmg (3 minut Cooldown btw and it can’t be reduced) but then our compensation is getting nerfed as well.
As always, Blizzard detected some fun and decided to end it.
Meanwhile classes loved by Blizz dev’s are getting some juice, again!
