I’ve been farming gear for quite a while now and I’ve kinda just accepted that some raids grant less loot than others, but on closer inspection the legacy loot rules seem rather off. In certain raids, the loot granted does not equate to the original raid’s max group size.
Currently running through Black Temple, which as far I know was originally a 25 man raid, but the difficulty next to the minimap says 10 man. All the bosses before Mother Shahraz only drop 2 pieces each, with Shahraz and The Illidari Council dropping 4 and Illidan dropping 5, so the first 2/3 of the instance is dropping loot equivalent to a 10 man.
But when I head into Sunwell Plateau, it’s marked as a 25 man which matches the original raid size. All the bosses barring the Eredar Twins drop 4 pieces, with the twins instead dropping 6, which seems far more reasonable than BT.
Similar issues exist with Molten Core and Blackwing Lair. Despite both of these raids originally being 40 man and it still showing as 40 man next to the minimap, most of the bosses only drop 2-3 items despite having vast loot tables, which is more in line with a 10 man raid. The exceptions being Ragnaros and Nefarian who drop 5 pieces and some BoEs, and Chromaggus who drops 4 pieces, even then that’s equivalent to a 25 man at best, not a 40 man.
This draws out transmog farming significantly in these raids (and possibly others) due to the low volume of loot. I’ve almost cleared out Pandaria raids on all difficulties and whilst I’ve been farming Classic and BC raids for a similar amount of time, I’m a lot further away from completing the catalog.
So is this working as intended? Since the volume of raid loot wasn’t properly normalised till WOTLK (I think?). Or are some raids being classified incorrectly by legacy loot?
