Legacy raid settings defaulting to normal difficulty if raid difficulty set to mythic

Afternoon all,

Not sure if this is a PEBMAC or an actual issue, i’ve been running the Ice crown citadel raid for a little while with my raid difficulty set to mythic 25 man i wrongly assumed this would default to the hardest difficulty to get the mount. Turns out the difficulty defaults to normal 25 man when the mythic difficulty is not available.

Is there anything i can do to not have to switch between difficulty settings often when running newer raids vs older raids to ensure the right difficulty is always selected, or is it possible to update the game logic to default to the hardest available difficulty when mythic is not available?

There is no mythic difficulty in ICC. Ofc it will set to normal (default).

The hardest difficulty is heroic in ICC.

Set the proper type before enter. If you dont know what difficulty is avialable then use the ingame journal.

Sure i understand that now after the fact but it’s bad UX from a beginners perspective, no prompt letting me know that the difficulty isn’t available or that it’s been changed. Entering the raid on mythic will give no warning or prompt that the difficulty has then been changed to normal.

If you were in any PVE instance there is a small icon at top-right corner of minimap (this is the default place). This icon says what the environment’s difficulty.

Just need the move the mouse there, and the pop-up message tells you what is the difficulty. If its not good, leave, change settings, reenter.

As I said: The ingame journal tells what difficulty is avialable. Its completely ingame stuff, no addons, no google.

(bytheway, almost every system message is in the chat window with yellow color)

A small icon in the minimap isn’t exactly highlighting any changes though, also there is no system message in yellow to tell you the difficulty is set to normal? The only notice i have is the skull icon.

I mean it’s fine, will be able to use journal in the future and check each raid instance before going in but seems like a bad system, a message in chat or a pop up to say mythic not available setting to normal would be great. At the moment it just silently falls back to default which is normal.

If you want to send suggestions you should do through in-game option. Customer support doesn’t handle or forward suggestions.

You see the whole situation wrong.

The system cannot read your mind. The system doesnt know you wanted to go on mythic, or just missed to reduce the diff. If the settings is not valid, the system return to the default. Its the good mechanic.

BTW .. While I write this post, I flied to ICC.. I set the difficulty to mythic.. Entered.. and the raid was HC.. so.. Something is not valid on your story.

System message: Welcome to Icecrown Citadel (25 players (Heroic)). The instance locks are .. blabla

Didn’t know that was an option, thanks for the input.

The system doesn’t need to read minds though, it knows that i want to do mythic as that is the choice i made when setting raid difficulty. If the settings aren’t valid a warning saying such would be nice.

I asked my partner to fly to ICC set the difficulty to mythic entered and the raid was normal 25 so something is not quite right here.

System message: Welcome to Icecrown Citadel (25 player)

I tested with an ICC “virgin” character

The results.

There was no raid settings.. I set to mythic.

1: The raid was on HC (a skull on the raid portal)

2: I set the raid to normal (the skull faded, the raid became normal)

3: I set the raid to mythic → nothing changed

4: I set the raid to HC → The raid portal has changed (skull came back).

So I can just repeat myself. The journal will tell you what difficulty is available. Set the proper difficulty.

I leave this topic, I think we discussed everything.
