This is plainly said a rant, but a grounded one for sure. I can’t be the only one that has noticed the difference in price between various armor type Legendary base items!
Ranked from most expensive to least expensive are:
Leatherworking (both mail and leather)
Plate
Cloth
My main problem here is that the price difference between items on the AH (whether it be raw mats or crafted items) is sometimes so big, that it’s just unfair.
To give an example:
Rank 4 (235) Umbrahide Treads cost about 320k gold on my server
Rank 4 (235) Grim-Veiled Sandals cost about 30k gold on my server
I can understand that there would be a difference in price, but that should only be marginal instead of exponential.
And then I’m not even starting on the fact that upgrading from Rank 1 to Rank 2 (and further too) is just too damn expensive.
To get from Rank 1 to Rank 2 for ONE base item would already cost 520k gold, and then I’d have to sell the base items for about the same (which they will never sell for) to make it break even, let alone make a profit.
So that times 8 (for 8 armor slots) times 3 (because there’s 4 armor ranks) would result in about 32 million gold cost (sure, some of the base items will sell, but not all of them).
Whoever designed this upgrade system made a huge mistake in not rating all crafting requirements across all different professions with the same value.
And the upgrade path is pretty much only laid for people who are extremely wealthy on gold.
a big reason why the leatherworking one is more expensive is the heavy callous hide. Even if you farm leather for 2 hours you maybe have about 20 of them. These are far harder to get compared to other mats like cloth. While leather/mail might easily be the biggest group of people who need these kind of items.
Heavy callous hide goes for 2300 g on my server because its that rare and much in demand. The enchanted one wich you need to craft the base item requires 2 heavy callous hide. Wich makes it far more expensive to craft compared to other armor groups
People still can buy the lower ilvl base item, upgrading it should cost about the same amount of soul ash as making a high lvl one from scratch, right?
There was huge price difference between Rank 1 and Rank 2 but few days after people started upgrading to Rank 2 the price dropped drasticly so probably as time goes those huge prices will drop as well.
Leather, Mail, and Plate all require a gathering profession to provide mats to craft gear [Mining and Skinning].
Tailoring doesn’t… instead cloth is a general drop, which I believe was attributed to the days of Bandages, which is long gone now, that everyone could use. There’s just a huge surplus of Cloth compared to other mats.
So with that being said, they ought to make Cloth have its own profession to produce. Call it Weaving, and have people gather them just like herbalism… such as a Cotton node here, Flax there, Hemp and so forth.
I haven’t done the math but is this true for rank 2-3 as well? is there a massive surplus for all ranks except 4 due to being forced to craft just to level the skill?
Well, they never found a way to make crafting interesting… I guess that’s how it goes.
Might get an alt leatherworker if it actually has so much potention for gold.
Now about the system itself. Everything is failed (wow surprise)
needing to craft multiple times in order to get access to next rank is kinda not the smart*.
Bought a rank 2 directly for my Demon hunter at this point, buying rank 1 was a waste of 30K gold.
The fact we can “skip” some parts makes no real sense, since crafter must craft a metric ton of each anyway.
Now they’ve tied the system to ressources they can control the droprate so obviously, based upon the “metrics” they’ve got they made sure to siphon gold as much as possible.
And we’re just at the beginning of the expansion… kinda feeling ranks are going to go up with the obvious problems linked to that …
Considering what ranking them up gives… not sure if i’ll bother to.
